Wow, I didn't know Aubrayo Franklin signed with the Saints. Gregg Williams is going to have a very good defense there.

Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency-Part 3
The Miami Dolphins loved the 2009 Redskins so much, they've decided to become them!

Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency-Part 3
I was speaking specifically about a. Building an offense around Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush, b. trying to replace the head coach in January before finding out that no one wants your crappy job, and c. entertaining the thought of replacing your young quarterback with mediocre options with no upside.
The Dolphins clearly have a trifecta. Now they just need to hire Greg Blache to start bringing in veteran defensive linemen who once played in the SEC and can no longer rush the passer.

Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency-Part 3
Well last year's defense was a 3-4 defense being run on 4-3 personnel. So it is somewhat understandable it was that terrible.

I'll take Haslett because of his ability to make in-game adjustments, and because the game isn't moving too fast for him, but the defensive groups here have been disappointing for years, so it's personal preference.

LOL, funny... I'd take our $%*! pile from last year over blache's scheme any day. BECAUSE...... I can see how this 3/4 has room for improvement and when the right pieces get brought in this defense will be a monster. Blache's scheme was maxed out. There was no room for improvement on top of the fact he had to dummy down the GW scheme. Plus and it's a biggie.... there were more turn overs last year vs. any in GW's or Blache's years here. It's the turn overs that will give more opportunities to the offense to score. |

Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency-Part 3
The defense near the end of the year was much improved though a little to conservative for my taste. I'm trying to put together videos for Orakpo in games near the end of the year and he's simply not doing anything but playing contain half the time. At least with Carriker I have plenty of plays where he tries to push the pocket.

Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency-Part 3
Our defense last year was the worst since Spurrier. That is pretty bad. When you give up 5 yards a carry you will be a non-playoff sub .500 team.
It took along time before we started to see any improvement. It took way to long. I am not sure what kind of great "in-game adjustments" we saw last year. I guess when you are down 45-14 at half time (Eagles MNF debacle) and only give up 14 in the second half, you consider that a great adjustment? Ha! I say the eagles took their foot off the accelerator on the way to us giving up 59 points. The 31-7 loss to Giants in week 13 (late in the season) was not much better. But go on and believe our defense was not that bad. |
