Which Redskins Should Receive Contract Extensions after the Lockout
This one will make you think. Typically, with all this money to burn, we talk about who we're bringing in as free agents. Then, when the team doesn't win, we talk about how the money should have been spent on our own players instead of someone elses useless trash.
LaRon Landry is obvious, because he's got two years left on his rookie deal and seems like the one piece of the team that the Redskins can count on in the future. But what about a guy like London Fletcher who is 36, sure, but would seem to have two plus years of positive value to an organization, even if he's nearing the end of the line as an every down player? Should he get an extension while we have the money? Would anyone consider Adam Carriker an extension candidate? He's in the last year of his deal. Anyone want to see more of Chris Horton? Then there's the Tight End situation. Cooley has only three years left on his deal. Fred Davis hits the market after this year. If one of these guys is the future at the position, maybe a lifetime deal should be in the works. If not, perhaps now is the time to move one or the other.

Cooley and Landry and keepers. Fred Davis just isn't mature enough to be a top NFL player, even though I think he's got more ability than Cooley. Other than that everyone else is gone...Fletch, Carriker, Horton and so on.

Re: Which Redskins Should Receive Contract Extensions after the Lockout
I would extend Fletch for 3 years at a reasonable price.
Horton, eh - let's see him another year. If we lose out, so be it. Extend Davis & Cooley, if both are studly, trade one. I think Carriker came on at the end. I would extend, but maybe I am wrong about him. Also, let's see who shows up after free agency.

I think Landry is a keeper. Carriker has played well and I would want to keep him. Fletch could be kept with a reasonable contract. And Cooley has three years...so I would wait another year to decide on him. I think Horton could be a nice backup SS, but I doubt he'd cost a lot of money.

I want them to expand Fred Davis time. Use two tight ends like the patriots did then trade one of them just like the patriots will haha. But i think there contracts are fine especially Cooley

Re: Which Redskins Should Receive Contract Extensions after the Lockout
I would re-sign Fletcher to a good money 2 year deal, and maybe if he still wants and can play beyond that, give him like an incentive based 1 year deal from then on, etc...
I have always thought that we should trade Cooley for a top draft pick that can be used on an offensive linemen, because I really like Fred Davis and I think he can be the long-term answer here. I think we are OK at Wide Receiver. Moss being resigned or not is irrelevant to me, because until we can sure up the line and get decent play from the QB, nobody is going to look like a superstar. We need to spend a little money in Free Agency and pick up another QB, maybe a veteran, in case the Rex/Beck experiment doesnt work out and there is still time to save the season. We can also get maybe a offensive linemen or two.

Cooley is at the back part of his career. I'd trade him and resign Davis. |

Re: Which Redskins Should Receive Contract Extensions after the Lockout
Landry has earned an extension, been a starter since his rookie year, shown flashes of dominance and has all around solid. Fletcher I'm on the fence, a short one yes, but no more than 2 yrs. Extending Carriker is probably wise as well, solidify depth on the DL. Fred Davis is going to be looking for starter money so unless we ar looking to sink that much into one position that could be tough.

Who, exactly, is up for an extension right away?

Re: Which Redskins Should Receive Contract Extensions after the Lockout
I would wait on Landry. I wouldnt extend Cooley, in fact I may look to transition Fred Davis into the spot this year depending on play and extend Davis before the season starts. I would wait on Carriker like Landry until after this season. I would ask Fletch what he wants and then look to make that happen.

Re: Which Redskins Should Receive Contract Extensions after the Lockout
I'd resign and or trade both Cooley and Davis and keep Logan Paulson. I'd let Moss go. Keep Rhabach at Center. I'd cut Torain and Williams and use the new draft pick. ;o

For those down on Landry, yes he has been inconsistent. But he showed signs of maturing last year. And SS's who are better than him do not grow on trees.
