Re: time to play GM
I'm thinking of starting a new thread called "Time to Play GMScud" where I will advocate drafting Mike Pouncey, trading for Tim Tebow and bringing in Urban Meyer as an offensive consultant

And I would care if he left. This organization needs the proven leadership and experience that he offers. We've tried the "young, hungry" coaching route already. Turning this situation over to a rookie HC would ultimately set us back even further. Everything else though, you're dead on. Especially the players that we've hung on to because of their supposed "locker room leadership". What gets proven year in and year out is that they're simply average players that won't get us to the upper echelon no matter who is coaching, and it's time to cut the ties from just about every player of the Joe Gibbs 2.0 era. |

As for blowing up this team, I mean I think the only guys who truly have safe spots have to be Orakpo, T. Williams, Landry. Everybody else can either be cut or traded. Now I'm not saying guys like Moss, Torain, C. Rogers, etc. can't be contributors to this team, but they aren't keep at all cost type guys. If we truly wanted to rebuild, we could go the "firesale" route and start stockpiling draft picks.

Re: time to play GM
I say we draft the best available and then figure out who to sign in FA.
But it does not work in that order so let Bruce do his research. So if Nick Fairley,DT looks to be a sure pick then sign V-Jax. Our BIG NEEDS are Guard- Mankins Center-Kalil WR- Jones/Blackmon or sign V-Jax DT -Fairley or sign Seymour OLB -Draft in the 2nd round SS -Draft CB- FA RB ATV and ? RB are a dime of dozen K -OK STATE KICKER |

Also, I agree with you on caring if he left. I'd be hugely disappointed if he left because I think he's someone who could do a good job directing a rebuild, but if rebuilding were a deal breaker for him, I'd tell him that we have to go in another direction and not let him convince me that we're close. As for missing on the hungry, rookie head coach, I don't know that Zorn should count. For me, I didn't think he was a viable head coaching candidate when he got the job. Then, I was fooled by the 6-2 start, but, ultimately, he proved me right. The guy wasn't cut out to be, or maybe he just wasn't ready to be, a head coach in the NFL. I will say that I'm probably guilty of "Tomlin Envy" because he's my favorite head coach in the league right now and I'd love to have a young coach who I knew could be around for more than 5 years. Basically, I want the Redskins to find their own version of a Mike Tomlin. (This will be funny if they become horrible and someone digs this up in a few years...lol) |

It all has to do with that 'negative energy field' that has surrounded this team since, oh, summer of 1999. |

Seems like some big dice to be rolling though. Even with Kelly back in the mix I hope we do something at WR, doesn't have to be dramatic like V. Jackson, but maybe a mid to late round pick. |

Re: time to play GM
Here's my idea;
WR- pick up V.Jackson, TJ Houshmendzadeh, and either another FA or UFA. Draft Round: 1- drop back for extra picks. OL- draft a Center and RT. DL/NT- draft LB- draft. FS- draft. I'd then bring in UFA's for OL, DL, LB, FS, and WR. The team has serious thought to put into deciding on whether to keep McNabb or not. I'd probably let him go but I figure the team is going to keep him. But until they decide if Beck is the man or not or until they get another QB to replace McNabb I see McNabb staying. Depending on how Alex Gibbs is health wise I'd also look into replacing Forester with Gibbs. |

Re: time to play GM
We could have a prime pick for teams wanting to trade up. That would be ideal if we can pull it off.
