He's short of Riggo's Record then, right?

This particular injury to Portis had the muscle torn from the bone.

I'm convinced that Portis will be back here next year.

He's strictly year to year at this point, but he's going to earn his way back based on his play from earlier in this season.

I think so too. Shanahan seems to think he's got quite a bit left from his comments today. If he's healthy and agrees to a deal that makes sense, I definitely think he will be back.

Quote:
With his base salary of almost $7.2 million and bonuses, Portis will be paid almost $7.7 million this season. Although it is possible Portis's career with the Redskins and in the NFL could be finished, Shanahan said he believes Portis could have productive years ahead of him.

"I don't think there's any question about it," Shanahan said. "He's got such a strong will. It all depends on does he come back a hundred percent? Does he want to come back and play? He's got that inner drive that most people don't have. He wants to compete. But obviously, he's got to get well."

Healthy he is till the best back we have. If his deal can get reworked appropriately why we wouldn't bring him back is beyond me.

Shanny isnt going to say anything negative about CP and scare off any potential takers. The Skins need to be done with this over-paid under performer and move on.

THIS ^^^^

No disrespect to anyone, but if we've learned anything from NFL coaches this year, it's that they lie and can't be trusted.

Andy Reid: "No Question about it, KEVIN KOLB will be our QB, there is no controversy".

Tom Cable: "Jason Campbell is the unquestioned starter".

It's not like Shanahan is going to say; "Well, with the money that we guaranteed Portis, we basically had to play him, because he was best friends with the owner, and the owner told me under no uncertain terms that Portis would play no matter what. I'm kind of relieved now because the RB position has been held hostage for a number of years now. I'm hoping we can finally move on".

Unless Portis agrees to a MASSSSIVE pay reduction, then there is no way he will be back.

I dont think its lying at the time they say it but circumstances change quickly and the coach has to adjust.

Re: Portis Officially Done for Season-Placed on IR

I think he will be back next year in a limited role b/c Danny loves him .. and you know what, he has been 100% heart and effort in every play .. i personally love CP .. I know he had a rough few past seasons but he was our work horse for a couple nice playoff runs and winning streaks ... greatest RB blocker I have seen in my lifetime ... Swagga of a true "U" guy and there was something special about Moss, Portis, Taylor ... it's amazing to think what could have been when thinking of those 3 a few years ago ... hope ya heal up well CP ... Yep...one of my favorite Skins memories.

It was the perfect start to a great Redskins career.

I hope he can come back for one more year somehow...my favorite Redskin (only jersey I own right now). He was also one good game away from 10,000 career yards (77 yards away).

I was really pulling for him to break Riggo's record this season. He played GREAT when he was able to, even in his last game. Amazing how RBs consistently hit that wall right around age 30.

Somewhere, there is this mathematical table made up by some really smart guy, that shows all the great running backs, their age season by season, and their amount of carries and stats.

What you see is that it's not so much their age, as the total number of carries. When they hit a certain number of carries, it's all downhill from there. Earl Campbell was the only guy who was the exception on that chart, but you can see the other greats. Its why Ricky Williams is still so productive, because he hasnt hit that career number of carries.

Unfortunatley, Portis hit that number of carries i believe 2 seasons ago, so what we saw is pretty much right on the money according to that chart. If somebody can find it for me, that would be great. It really is a great learning tool.
