I'm wondering if Banks is going to take over at this spot too? I feel much more comfortable with him on KO rather than punts just because if he drops it (which I hope is behind him) he has time to pick it up and run without a huge disaster.

I don't care. I'm just glad it's not Thomas. He's provided nill on offense as a WR and on his KR's it seemed he bobbled every catch. I think in the last game he bobbled and dropped it in the end zone, picked it up, and only got to the 26 yrd line. You don't want your KR bobbling all the time.

2008 - WORST draft in Redskins history. The pundits who rate drafts the day after should look back after 3 years to reevaluate. This would warrant an F-minus if that is possible. I'm just completely disgusted. Thanks Dan and Vinny. You set the franchise back at least another year since we will undoubtedly address WR via FA or another high draft choice after the season.

I wouldnt say it was the worst as that year we also got Fred Davis, Kareem Moore, and Chris Horton with the last 2 being 5th and 7th round picks. The team has done an average to great job drafting in the first round, 5th-7th round picks, and finding gems through UDFA the last few years but the 2nd thru 4th rounds seem to be a huge collection of wasted picks in that same time frame.

I'm disappointed he got released but if the coaching staff thought he brought nothing to the table then that's what had to happen. If he finds success elsewhere, great, if not then w/e, just another bust from yesteryear. I can't believe out of the 3 second rounders from the '08 draft all we got is a backup tight end out of it.

He should land a job in no time, don't worry about it.

Chris Horton is absolutely useless in coverage and Fred Davis was an unnecessary luxury with Cooley playing at a high level. Also consider that we selected Davis with DeSean Jackson still on the board!!! The only pick that I feel good about from that entire draft is Kareem Moore. Considering that Vinny drafted 10 players in 2008 and only has one starter to show for it, yes, I would call it our worst draft EVER!

Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas

I can see the colts picking Thomas up for a few reasons...
1..to pick his brain before we play in a week
2..they have injuries to Wayne,Colley and others all across the board.
3..I thought he did quite well on Kick returns

Somebody will pick him up...you can bet on that. just because nobody wanted to trade a 7th rounder for him, doesn't mean he won't get scooped up real quick

There's a bunch of teams that are getting dinged at the WR position and will take a flyer on his raw talent alone

Pats?
Panthers? (smith hurt)
Colts? (bunch of injuries)
Rams? (Mark Clayton is their #1 WR with their injuries)
Lots of teams...

VJ will be a Redskin in about a week

Remember what I said folks? 5th and a 3rd...lol

Not busting on you but in theory we should give away our top draft picks for a lot of lower draft picks and still pick up some UFA's? Especially since this team has done better in later rounds.

Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas

The '08 draft is definitely in the discussion, but I still think we've seen worse.

2003 - only netted Dockery as a legit NFL starter.

2002 - only noteworthy player is Cartwright. Well, Robert Royal too I guess.

1996 - total swing and a miss on OL Andre Johnson. He didn't even make it out of training camp. Stephen Davis is the only player that came out of this one.

At least with 2008 we still have Moore, Horton, Kelly, and Davis. So I think there's still some time for this one to be salvaged.

That doesn't make me feel any better. The reality is the two headed Snyderatto was a terrible Front Office. Period. To this day Cerratto still claims they (Kelly and Thomas) were a bargain, 1st round talent piked in the 2nd round.
WHAT A ****ING JOKE!
We are still paying the price for their poor leadership and inability to stock our team with quality players. It is not the Coaching.
Someone mentioned earlier about other teams picking up our thrown away gems. Which ones? Patrick Ramsey? HA! Ladell Betts? Oh wait....Jason Campbell. You could build a all star team with that line up.

I am surprised by some of the shock and disbelief by some on this thread about Thomas getting cut. Where have you been?
Thomas and Kelley were reaches just because we thought our biggest need at the time was tall fast WR's. All the while our offensive line was really the biggest need.

I just find it hard to believe. It would be complete disaster if another team discovers the guy can play. Maybe he just needs a change.

Maybe, and I think that you are correct. However, I wonder if this wasn't a calculated risk by Shanallen:

option a) someone else does pick him up and Shanallen are unconcerned since they have lost patience with DT

or

option b) he doesn't get picked up right away and Shanallen, having used their nuclear weapon motivational tool, bring him back

Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas

Some players are just better fits in other systems. For whatever reason DT couldn't win over Shanahan. Doesn't mean he can't play, he just can't play here.

I had high hopes for Thomas but I'm just not sure he's ever going to be elite. His hands aren't anything special and I never got the vibe he was 110% into football. He seems more interested in everything that comes along with the fame and fortune of the game.

Maybe he can be a solid #2 or #3 somewhere, who knows.
