I'd have a problem with him retiring if it was so he could get high off purple drank all day and hang with his homeboys, but I can't fault him if he wanted to devote himself to his religion, which is what it sounds like. Granted the 9ers wasted a third round pick on him but other teams have made worse deals, we wasted a 2nd round pick on Jason Taylor for 1 year. If he wants to devote himself to his religion and the NFL interfered with that, well he has to do what he has to do.

Re: The Official 2010 Training Camp Thread

Redskin Insider:

I believe at this point it's a very slim to none chance Kelly makes this team this season. And very slim has already left town. Kellys next.

Malcolm Kelly's chances Saturday: 'very, very slim'

Asked whether Malcolm Kelly will be available for Saturday's game against Baltimore, Coach Mike Shanahan pegged the wide receiver's chances as "very, very slim."

Kelly, hampered by a sore hamstring, was again relegated to sidework at Monday morning's practice, which has been his daily routine since the opening day of training camp July 29. Missing a second preseason game means that Kelly will have a very small window to impress coaches and earn a spot on the 53-man roster. And that window seems to close more with each passing day.

"Obviously, if you can't practice, he can't show me anything," Shanahan said. "But he's doing everything he can with his treatment to get that hamstring better. That's all he can do. What he doesn't want to do is go out there too quick where he sets himself back [to] where he can't even practice the rest of the training camp.

"He's doing everything we ask him to do, and he'll get an opportunity, hopefully, at least in the next week, to come back full speed. I think that would be pretty safe to say, that in a week he should be able to come back."

On Sunday, Shanahan said Kelly might be ready to return to practice by Tuesday. That's no longer the case, though. In fact, Shanahan isn't certain when Kelly will be able to return to team drills.

"After looking at him today, I really don't know," Shanahan said of Kelly's return. "Like I told you, those hamstrings, one day they feel a little better than the other. There's just some tightness. He's still going 50-60 percent. I really don't know at this time."

And we have some notable movement on that wonderful depth chart.

Willie Parker moves up the depth chart

There are a couple of interesting changes on the updated depth chart the Redskins released in advance of Saturday night's preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens at FedEx Field.

Veteran running back Willie Parker, listed at the bottom of the first depth chart, moved to third string, ahead of young players Ryan Torain and Keiland Williams, who are tied at fourth string. Parker improved his standing for the game against the Baltimore Ravens despite sitting out the 42-17 victory over the Buffalo Bills because it was not his turn to work with the first-team offense.

Roydell Williams, formerly listed as a co-starter at X receiver, or split end, with Joey Galloway, is now fourth-string. Williams, out of the NFL since the 2008 season while struggling with injuries, is playing on special teams for the first time in an attempt to revive his career.

Despite muffing the opening kickoff return of the season, wideout Devin Thomas remained atop the depth chart at that position. Although Phillip Buchanon still is listed as the No. 1 punt returner, rookie Brandon Banks, who had a 77-yard touchdown against the Buffalo Bills, appears to be making a move for the top spot.

Receivers prediction, as of today:

Keep Moss, Galloway, Armstrong, Williams, Thomas, Austin

Release Kelly, Banks, Hodge, Furrey, Wade

Check back next week when Kelly's health and another Brandon Banks punt return TD force their way onto the roster.

Re: The Official 2010 Training Camp Thread

I'm pretty disappointed with how things have turned out for Malcolm Kelly after two pro seasons so far. If we release him at the end of the preseason, and I'd bet that he will if he continues to stay unhealthy, I won't be able to help but think about how we wasted a 2nd round pick on him. I was hoping he'd prove everybody wrong and become the dominant red-zone receiver we thought he could be, but as each day passes by and he continues sitting on the sideline due to his hamstring, the more I think we are getting closer to his release date. It's a damn shame he can't stay healthy.

Well, seeing as the depth chart is for this game only, I wouldn't read too much into the RB list. Shanahan has made it clear he's gonna feature a different back in the first few games. I think Parker is gonna be a cut for sure, and Portis and LJ are the 1 and 2 with Torain making the roster and pushing LJ for the 2 spot. If we keep a 4th RB, I could see Williams being that guy.

I still think Kelly makes the team, maybe he's IR'd for the year a la Colt last year but I don't think he's cut

Agreed, except for the IR part.. I'm pretty sure Shanahan would have already cut him if he is considering it..

Re: The Official 2010 Training Camp Thread

Why do we want him here if he is constantly injuried, not making plays, and taking a roster spot over a guy like Banks or Austin? Id say bye bye to him without blinking...
