Personally I think that play is the most memorable of Landry's career rather than his getting trucked by Jacobs. He avoided Turner basically the entire game though, as he does whenever he faces a dangerous player.

I mean this stuff is on tape...

And it's another reason why the moving him to SS argument is nonsense. First of all he played a centerfield safety for LSU. He roamed deep in the backfield and picked off a hell of the lot of passes, until his senior year when offensive coordinators just stopped calling any deep passes against LSU's defense. He was a deep FS almost his entire college career. When we drafted him it was to compliment Sean in that we could have two guys roaming back there, not to keep a guy in the box. If Landry is put at SS I PROMISE our defense regresses because it only means more missed tackles and more penalties. As FS Landry rarely sees the RB get that far up-field (because we've got excellent tacklers mostly at LB and SS) but almost every time that happens Landry gives up a TD.
I have watched LL just as much as you have. When he played against Dallas and New Orleans he was destroying everything that moved.

The whole team was terrible against Atlanta. I remember some bad angles against Turner, I do not remember him being afraid to take on any runningback.

Why would he be afraid of Turner but be frothing at the mouth to take on Jacobs? It doesn't add up.

To judge a man's career after only 3 years just doesn't make sense to me.
I'm judging his attitude after 3 years. You are right on one part, judging a player's skills after 3 years is not fair. And I honestly feel his problems are not skill or potential. But well, maybe he'll turn a corner...I'm a bit pessimistic about it...hopefully new coaching leadership will change this.

Is this the same Atlanta game where his late hit on Matt Ryan led to a penalty and an altercation on the sidelines?

Yup. The Atlanta sideline, including the coach, were a bunch of tough guys until Godzilla showed up then they parted like the red sea...

Holmgren says Cleveland Browns will definitely draft a QB, but probably not in the first couple of rounds

...Holmgren likes Sam Bradford of Oklahoma, but believes St. Louis will make him the No. 1 pick of the draft. Although he said he would consider trading up for Bradford, he knows it's not realistic.

As for the second-ranked quarterback in the draft, Jimmy Clausen of Notre Dame, Holmgren was characteristically honest.

"I wish I liked him more," he said.
"You know how you have a type of player that you like? It's not scientific. People like him a lot. He'll go high. But it would be hard for me [to take him]."

Holmgren does like Tim Tebow of Florida, despite reservations about his throwing mechanics, and has invited him to a future private visit. He intends to do that with "four or five" quarterbacks before the draft.

Interesting quote. The Browns currently have the 7th pick and it seems like they wouldn't consider Clausen. And yet people are talking about drafting him at #4? I know Kiper is high on him, but I hope we don't draft purely on need and overvalue this guy.. If he's truly worth it I'd be excited about it - but seeing experts disagree about his value makes me nervous..

I wouldnt believe a thing Holmgren is saying about any players that are about to be drafted, for all we know he thinks Clausen is the best QB in this draft...this reaks of posturing..

Dude, everyone has his own opinion about these QBs. I say draft a QB in one of the last two rounds. No matter who we get, the guy is going to be a project either way. Clausen, Lefevour, Stull, Kafka, McCoy, doesn't matter. We need our first two picks to be OL to help shore up the line.

I disagree, usually after the 3rd year a guy makes a name for himself in the league. I think Landry can be a great player though. He has what it takes. His mental game needs some coaching up though.

Landry did show up from the get go and played just as good if not better then a rookie Orakpo, especially at the end of the year when he switched to FS. The problem is he's slowly regressed since then, with this last year just being a complete and utter failure.

Personally I think it was a combination of his attitude and Blaches scheme. I'd also like to add that Jackson's coaching seems to have had a negative effect on him but then again Jackson was here for both Taylor and Landry (when he was good). Anyway look on the bright side, even though we missed out on Adrian Peterson we also passed up on Jamaal Anderson.

In the end hopefully Haslett's scheme will get Landry to pick up where he left off during his rookie year.

The Jacobs incident was opening night in 08. after that & the ensuing embarrassment (it was even mentioned on an episode of friday night lights) I do think LL was affected. On the Turner td play in question he tried to make the tackle by throwing his torsoe at Turner's feet, he didn't try to tackle him w/a hit & wrap.

I can't take credit for it. Doc Walker calls him, Godzilla.

It is the best nickname for the Big Fella, that I have heard.

Well lets look at the situation:

We drafted JC late in the first round and after 6yrs he's still a project.

We drafted Brennan in later rounds and he's a project, However he's looked better each year.

I guess my point is your talking about totally skipping the top ranked talent, who might see the field inside of a year to replace Campbell when the team decides to let him walk next year, and pick up a QB late in the draft who most likely wil take several years to develope which time is something we don't have.

#1- Any new HC is going to want a QB that he feels fits his scheme and has not been brainwashed to utilize certain techniques that he does not like.

#2- We all know JC most likely won't be here next year. The front office/owner was ready to get rid of him last year so this year he is simply insurance. So if JC is not going to be here next year when he's a FA then we need to pick up a QB who will be able to take over the reigns either sometime this year or next year. It would be nice to stick him in games when we are ahead by a large margin in order to give him expierence to take over the reigns.

#3- a later round QB will take longer to develope because their talent level is a lot lower and needs to be developed.

I'd rather take a QB at #4 whoever that might be cause at this point Bradford and Clausen both look decent.
