Which brings me back to your original post when a lot of us were discussing the Jets. You develop the line and then you bring a QB. You could do both this upcoming draft, but I feel like you gotta take that franchise tackle with the first. Which I believe is what Shanny is going to do, since he really didn't need to keep Campbell. I know the decision is not final, but I don't think he's going to pass up the chance to draft a franchise tackle.

Yeah,! I stole that from "The Blind Side" What?
The type of offensive lineman needed for the zone blocking scheme aren't the prototypical lineman you'll find in the first round. Shannhan had a dominating offensive line during his entire 14 year tenure in Denver. And during that 14 years he only drafted 2 o-lineman in the first round. Historically new Coaches have always brought in their own QB's, instead of settling with their inherited QB's (Superstar QB's like Manning are the exception). There's no way IMO that we'll not draft Bradford or Clausen. There's not a single draft board out there that shows us picking a lineman.

When was the last time the Redskins drafted according to the draft boards? Granted there's a new front office, but still. Given the terrible shape our o-line is in at the moment, it would be hard for Shanahan to pass up on a guy like Okung if he's there at #4. I know people love to use the cliche "coaches always bring their own QB's", but in this case I hope Shanahan stays away from that and builds the line first. Honestly, us taking a tackle with that #4 would be a good sign that things have changed at Redskins Park.

1) Ricky Damon: WAS, QB Jimmy Clausen

2) Randall Weida: WAS, QB Sam Bradford

3) Joel Wesler: WAS, QB Jimmy Clausen

4) Raul Colon: WAS, QB Ryan Mallet

5) Ben Standig: WAS, QB Sam Bradford.

True, but I think Forrest Long nailed it. It all depends on what Shanny thinks of JC after evaluating him. Could go either way.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

One reason the mocks mostly have us taking a qb is because Okung is gone before the fourth pick. A lot of what we do will be determined by the 3 teams in front of us.

Yes, I did learn from Capt Obvious.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

Mock drafts are routinely mistaken, especially when they appear before the Combine. Who mocks have us taking is not a very good predictor at this point in time.

Mock drafts are pretty worthless. I'm always amazed how some get so caught up in them.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

We will find out this weekend how good of a QB Sanchez is. The Jets will probably have to throw the ball to keep up with Peyton Manning. 93 yards passing won't cut it in the AFC Championship vs. the Colts.

The Colts aren't going to have an easy time against the Jets D. And if I'm the Colts D I'm not looking forward to stopping the Jets running game.

The Jets have gotten this far with a simple formula, I think they'll lose but they definitely have a good shot.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

We weren't debating the veracity of a mock draft. We were debating who the sportswriters thought the Redskins would draft. Also, Mock Drafts are generally correct on the first 3 picks. After that, it's gets tougher to predict who'll draft whom.

We draft #4 though...honestly it all will depend on what St. Louis does. If they go QB, the Lions will take Suh in a heartbeat. Based on Tampa's pick, we could very well have our pick between Bradford and Okung.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

There also is a free agency period before we even get to the draft. If we sign a particular QB, for example only, we might be far less likely to go QB at #4. Same argument for left tackle, etc. Mock drafts offer soft guidance at best.
