Re: Haslett to accept Defensive Coordinator
Well look at the Jets, Rex Ryan has told his players on defense that every player will get their chance to make a play. AH might have to be patient but his turn to make a play would hopefully come up.

Re: Haslett to accept Defensive Coordinator
Haynesworth is not the only player on this team. It's unlikely that anyone would be able to make a scheme to match *everyone's* talents. If AH doesn't want to do what he's told, he can just fuck off -- he doesn't run this team. I get the feeling people would like to see our defense fit AH's talents, and they just don't care about anyone else, or the final product.
Also, the whole idea about adjusting schemes to fit personnel is kinda bogus to me. What if you have a QB that can't throw for shit? You don't just run the ball all the time, you find a QB that can throw. In any case, our focus should be to implement the best schemes, and we should find players who fit those schemes. If we can't find them now, then we might not switch schemes immediately, but our long term goal should be to move towards those schemes which are most effective.

Re: Haslett to accept Defensive Coordinator
Guys that think Blache sucks so bad...read this and compare to Haslett.
I know he rubbed people wrong this year...but the guy does not suck... I mentioned on another thread that there are only 9 active defensive coordinators with teams that rank better...Zimmer was one of them...."statistically" Haslett doesn't seem to match up to Blache. I sure hope past perfomance is not an indicator of future performance. If it is...this defense should rank around 15 or so. Gray's record was good but declined over the years...I wasn't sold on him either...especially due to his coaching performance of the secondary...he certainly does not deserve a promotion based on the secondary's decline in performance. It is possible that Haslett will improve the D a bit...but not likely...to me, this is just swaping a d coordinator for new blood's sake...no one can reasonably argue that this hire was an upgrade...Crennel or Zimmer could be argued....but that is it. Greg Blache

Re: Haslett to accept Defensive Coordinator
No Blache doesn't suck but a change was obviously needed.
By the way the poll results suck, that's why I usually don't toss in a "on the fence" option. |

Re: Haslett to accept Defensive Coordinator
Sometimes I think we place way too much emphasis on defensive rankings. Where this guy's defense was ranked, how well he did with that defense. The Redskins have consistently been a top 10 defense for the past few years. Personally, I'd take a top 15 defense with more red zone stops and less big plays over 30 yards.
That has been my biggest bone to pick with Blache's and Gregg Williams defense; we gave up momentum killing plays at the most inopportune times. If Haslett can correct that one area, I don't care if we sacrafice a few slots in total yards, but end up with a defense that plays consistently well from start to finish. |

Re: Haslett to accept Defensive Coordinator
i agree that we gave up a good bit of big plays, but i thought we were top 5 if not no. 1 in redzone defense?

Re: Haslett to accept Defensive Coordinator
That's what I was gonna say. They either scored way before they got to the redzone or settled for a FG. Either way, they scored when we needed a stop.
