Re: Defense = Disappointment
I think the defense is a disappointment because they are supposed to be the stronger part of our team and that didn't show.
The DBs played terrible, since they couldn't cover wideouts who had no more than 1-year of experienced. Landry seemed to be more concerned with hitting Brandon Jacob as payback for last year (leading to the personal foul) than actually playing the game. Our line didn't generate enough rush to affect the passing game. The offense had its issues too (but what a freaking concept, I'll talk about that in the thread for that topic!) but it is hard to overlook these deficiencies in the defense. Once again, let's stop pin the fault of a bad game on a single unit or player. Just as it takes a team to win, you also lose as a team.

Giants scored 23 pts, the defense gave up 16 pts of those points and the offense gave up 7 pts. The offense scored 17 points. If no offensive turnover the score would be 17-16 Skins.

Re: Defense = Disappointment
Some of the defense played well most of the time. Some of the defense played well very little of the time. You can't win like that.

Re: Defense = Disappointment
So who gave up the most points? The offense or the defense? Who scored the most points? Offense or defense?

If England won the battle for independence then we'd all be speaking with British accents.

The big problem with the defense is never, ever going to be any more evident than it was today. We had one three and out. Then the two turnover drives. THE GIANTS DID NOT PUT THEIR PUNTER ON THE FIELD UNTIL THE MIDDLE OF THE THIRD QUARTER. We won't know for 5 weeks or so just how much of our defensive struggles today were because the Giants are a great passing team. Maybe none. Maybe a lot. But considering how thoroughly dominated we were through the air on defense, I don't see how anyone could not see the giant gaping hole on the team. And no, the offense was not perfect. They made two costly errors, and couldn't open up any running lanes. But the passing game was the only thing that worked today.

Or you're just arguing for the sake of arguing. Well, if all we did on offense is run Portis three times and punt, we might not have to worry about those damn turnovers. Unless we fumble.

Re: Defense = Disappointment
My argument is that the defense didn't suck as much as the offense. This loss cannot be blamed on the defense, certainly not more so than the offense.

Re: Defense = Disappointment
In these matters I am never wrong. Have you explored the possibility that you're wrong?

What can I say? It's late and I've just been through some emotional trauma.

You kind of ran out of steam around the time you claimed that we got away from running the ball. The rest of the time, you've just been playing catch-up. Theory: they stuck you with Rams-Seahawks out there.
