Re: Defense = Disappointment

Landry, he sure loves to fly around... Only if he could tackle.... Our safeties are suited for strong safeties, all of them love to hit and play close the line.. We need a safety who can roam all over the field with toughness and coverage presence shown.. But once, again this is just only 1st game So I'm hoping Blache will get Landry to control himself and get smarter..

Our D-line men were mediocre today.. Barely no QB pressures.. Although I think they did better with the running, than last year.. Haynesworth, he did good in the game, beside the almost no QB pressures.. I sure hope Zorn will do something about whole defense scheme thing if our D-line continues to play like this.. We have Haynesworth who could commanding 3 O-line men.. We have Carter who definitely can put pressures on QB.. Along with Griffin, Jarmon and Orakpo.. Blache underutilized the linemen in this game..

Rocky has caught my attention in the game, he played a good game.. He looks more athletic.. Fletcher, he keeps showing us why he's still the heart of the D.. Rogers has shown some signs that he can be shut down corner, but unfortunately Blache keeps giving this a huge comfy zone between CB and WR

Yeah. We should just play the games over 4 days from now on. Then, when the Giants have like 14, 15 play drives (NFL average = 6), the defense can rest without actually having to get themselves off the field.

Good idea.

Huh?

JC had two bad plays: the fumble and the interception. I won't argue with those.

Otherwise he completed more than 70% of his passes for a ypa greater than 7. He moved well, found the open guy, and delivered accurate strikes. And he did it all with an invisible running game.

I don't see how someone can say that JC lost the game.

Re: Defense = Disappointment

We had ~300 yards of total offense. They had over 350. Maybe, in the alternate dimension you live in where the defense is never responsible for losses, and always responsible for wins, that can be debateable, but here, it's probably made the difference in a 7 point game.

Not to excuse two turnovers, but despite what last year might have led us to believe, those things actually occur in football games.

O, Gee, what happend again when jason fumbled. Oh yeah thats right, Osi ran it for a touchdown. Let's say that doesn't happen, then the score would be 17-16 Redskins. Campbell runs, throws the football 4 yards past the line of scrimmage...FOR A INT. Let's say that doesn't happen, then we could of had mabe a field goal, or would have pinned them deep in their end of the field. Score could have been 20-16 Us had neither of those of happend, or one of those it could have been 17-16. Jason played way tooo stupid today. Quit backing him up, we get it you like him, but he played awful today. Should have run it on some QB draws more..Next week he better rebound..

Re: Defense = Disappointment

For me I felt like the defense didn't get off the field on third downs enough. That and shoddy tackling along with poor pass rushing led to the Giants moving the ball comfortably down the field all day. Those are the things we need to work on if we plan on being a great defense again. Also where was that Haynesworth-Orakpo duo? Orakpo didn't show up and Haynesworth had his solo moments. I thought that pass rushing combo (along with Carter being freed up on the other side) was supposed to be great?

As for the Campbell fumble that Osi returned for a touchdown, well it all could've been avoided if Campbell just stepped up in the pocked sooner. Samuels didn't do that bad of a job on Osi it's just Campbell didn't step up and Osi extended those long arms and got a hand on the ball. The pass protection on that play wasn't bad Campbell just needs to step up in the pocket sooner.

Re: Defense = Disappointment

Our offense has looked like a high school teams for the better part of the last 10 years . I thought that the Defense was a huge dissapointment today , I felt NY could have scored all day if they wanted , remember , they have ZERO veterans at WR/TE with any real experience . Luckily for us , LAMS are next ..... we better win 27-10 .

I think reid doughty would be the extra defender we'd bring in and philip daniels would come off the field and orakpo would go to DE

I saw Reed alot, but I was hoping to see Chris Wilson rushing the passer alot from the SAM when Orakpo was down.

Re: Defense = Disappointment

I think the defense was definitely a disappointment, the secondary let an inexperienced wr corps look good. Even when they were in the right position they missed tackles(Smoot and Landry come to mind) and Deangelo played terribly. There were some positives and some guys had great efforts but as a unit they underperformed. When the Giants tried to attack the heart of the defense they got nowhere except for a couple of runs by Bradshaw, but when they attacked our so called skilled positions in space they made us look bad. This lost was a team effort the defense definitely did not play well enough and with the exception of a long, when it didn't really matter touchdown drive against the prevent, the offense didn't play well enough either.

How many of those yards came on our last drive against a soft defense and how many of those yards resulted in points? Defense looked bad offense looked bad also, this one stunk and it was a team effort. However, I consider the source.

I never said I liked JC. I criticized him for his mistakes. But I criticized him reasonably.

Hitting 73% of your passes with a ypa above 7 is neither stupid nor awful.

Re: Defense = Disappointment

The defense reminded me of last year. They kept the score down but when we need a stop they can't do it. However the defense did not lose this game. This one is 100% on the offense. Defense gave them the ball deep in NY's territory and we had to settle for 3. That was awful. JC's turnover led two 7 points and we lost by 6. There is your game right there.

Well, even if they didn't suck in that one short-field third quarter drive and threw a TD, that's still a two point deficit that couldn't be covered unless we had found another possession somewhere.

We didn't have the ball long enough for that single offensive failure to matter.

Now, if you score a touchdown there AND you don't fumble away that defensive TD, and you don't get intercepted on a pass over the line, then we probably win the game in spite of the defense, but do we really need to be flawless on offense before we admit the defense choked the big one?
