I think its a good move. We needed a boost to the Dline.

I am neutral about the pick, I like it just as much as I don't like it. I think it was a lot based on the pressure for Zorn and Vinny to get it done this year, which is what bothers me the most. I really want to know what other people offered. I know teams don't want to say what they did because then they can get judged for it, but I hope it somehow leaks out.
How did we trade our 3rd in 2010? Isn't the player who that pick was used for going to be on the roster in 2010? We used the pick 9 months early, that's all. I'm not getting how anyone is upset that we used our pick for a player that's going to be on our team?!?

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

Good point. This reminds me how some ppl (I think I saw this on ESPN) are saying that "Snyder gave away a pick". Um, hello, we drafted someone.

Gotta disagree there. Most of the stuff I've read has Jarmon's primary contributions beginning AFTER this season. Given the age of some of our DE's, I think this move is a lot more about the future than it is some win or go home situation in 2009.

Im sure Zorn is aware of the situation. With names like Holmgren,Cowher,Dungy,Shanahan and Gruden out there next season he knows he has to show DS that the team is on the rise. Especially on offense.

My bad, I meant it in that we won't be drafting in the third come draft day. We did the same thing for Jason Taylor. We traded the 2nd round pick 9 months early for Jason Taylor and he was on the roster in 2008. He was just older and hopefully not as good a LDE as Jarmon will be. I'm neutral about it, but other people are upset at the value, they don't know if he was worth using a third round pick on.

True, good point. He probably won't play much. He missed all the off-season work also. And he's good insurance for a lot of the old DEs we have if they get injured.

I didn't WANT to use a third pick on him, but we wouldn't have got him otherwise. We'll just have to wait and see how it goes. This, potentially, could turn out to be a great move. I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt personally. If he can eventually replace Daniels, I'd say the FO did a good job. A really good job.

I just dont get it. Yeah, I know we have a lot of needs, i.e O-Line. But, damn... this time last year people on this site were screaming "We need D-Line, we haven't drafted D-Line in years". Now, everyone says "We paid too much"...Give me a break. Be happy we have basically a new D-Line, a much stronger D-Line, and a much younger D-Line...are we forgetting that we have Albert freakin Haynesworth!? Hell, I could be a bookend DE playing next to that guy. Jarmon obviously has talent and came from a top-tier conference. I love the pick. I usually dont praise Vinny but this was a damn good move IMO

Anyone remember Charles Mann was a third rounder?

This could be a steal if it pans out. I would, however, be a little concerned. This guy was disqualified by the NCAA and lost his senior year eligibility because he tested positive for a banned diuretic.

Most diuretics are not banned, and they are even legal in the NFL. The banned diuretics are those diuretics that are known to be used to flush the traces of steroids/PHD's from the system so they won't show up on a drug test.

I'm a die hard Skins! fan and for that reason I'm excited but i have to contain myself. Jarmon would have missed the 2009 season, now we all know what happens when you sit out for a college season remember I beleive his name was Mike Williams out of USC was drafted by the Lions and was a flop. Taking Jarmon now he's hungry & book smart he graduated already could turn out to be a good move, a year to learn from good veterans and he could start out on ST.

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

The fact that 5 other teams placed 4th rounds bids to get him places my mind at ease with the value question. He was potentially on pace to be at least a 3rd round pick. I really like the move in the sense he will come in and get a year under his belt with Danels and Wynn with the plan of hopefully replacing one of them the following year. I dont think Wynn gets cut, I think Buzbee is the odd man out here. I really like the move, but it does state that they envision Orakpo staying at OLB....which I think alot of people(including myself) are going to have a problem with if he doesnt play well this year at the new position. I think Orakpo lined up on the left side at Texas, where Jarmon is projected to be as well. Not saying changing sides or even position cannot be done, but its already a challenge adapting to the NFL.

What you say is true, but that's why the press conference link I posted is a big factor for me. They clearly lay out what was going on, and I don't think UK would go way out on a limb if they had any doubts that this guy was using PHDs

2) Renaldo Wynn and Alex Buzbee will be unemployed within 2 months.
3) I'm not terribly concerned about losing the 3rd rounder next year. I think Jarmon qualifies as 3rd round talent that we got for a 3rd rounder a year early. If we had wanted to select him in the 3rd round in THIS years draft (had he been eligible), we would have had to trade next years 2nd. Instead, we're geting him for a 3rd rounder a year earlier than we would have otherwise.
4) Why did Cerrato openly pimp this guy to the media last week? I'll tell you why - he wanted fans to get pumped up for this guy, so we would be less angry when we announced we were giving up a 3rd rounder for him.
5) We only have 5 draft picks next year. Most of our division rivals have twice that.
6) If we have a bad season, Zorn, Campbell, and Cerrato will all be gone next year.
We are on the same page I agree with all of that although I am not in the area so I couldn't see Vinny pimping this dude. One thing people forget is this guy may be a first rounder next year so we are getting a bargain still with a 3rd round pick. Yeah we could have tried to get him for a 4th rounder but who is to say we would have gotten him we need d-line help now and we can’t be playing around trying to be cheap.
