Nice! I like the move a lot. Flip will be the most accomplished, biggest name coach we've had since... Doug Collins?? Sam Cassell will be a great assistant I think. Especially with young guards like Crittenden and Nick Young.

Now if we can just win the Blake Griffin sweepstakes...

Flip is the Marty Schottenheimer of the NBA. He'll get you to the playoffs every year, but he can't win the big one.

Still, if we can just make it past the first round then that's a huge step

I was disappointed when Eddie Jordan was canned. Was it really his fault that the team was decimated by injuries? The team certainly didn't improve after he was gone.

This is an upgrade over the current coaching situation though. Hopefully Gilbert will be ready to go for 82 games next season.

Grunfeld was never a big Jordan fan. The defense coach from Boston signed here and left three days later because he realized how much they weren't on the same page. But yeah it isn't Jordan's fault that Arenas' knee fell apart. He really is half their team. Butler is quality but not a guy who can simply carry the load day after day after day and win you games. Jamison is a superb role player to me. He's is one of the only 20-10 guys in league history who is really just a role guy. As the third option he excels but his defense is awful and he can't suceed as a second option regularly. Plus they have no front court to speak of. They have some talent but nothing that gives them much right now.

Re: Report: Wizards to Name Flip Saunders Coach (Cassell an Assistant)

I think Jordan is a decent coach but he runs one basic offensive scheme and needs particular type players to make it work. In my opinion the best coaches adapt philosophies to their player-mix effectively. I know that his teams don't generally play great defense but that is more a reflection of the player-mix, dictated by his offensive needs, more than philosophy.

DC hasn't played good defense in years.

Isn't Jordan going to get the Sac job anyways?

Looks like Jordan is the 76er's guy after all.

All I can say is that Detroit had three ex-Wizards playing for them on their starting five when they won the NBA championship. Is the front office taking advice from Vinny Cerrato? So I don't think Arenas can lead a championship team, but maybe he could if we had some of those ex-wizards back.

Looks like it was the 5+filler for Foye/Miller. Looks like an upgrade for next season. We'll need some more depth up front, though... we just parted with a bunch of size.
