Housh would command top dollar especially in a pretty thin WR free agent market.

  • Santana Moss - 2nd Round Pick
  • Kedrick Golston - 3rd Round Pick
  • Ladell Betts - 4th/5th Round Pick

The site also speculates that the Skins will attempt to trade Chris Horton for a 2nd Rounder. I actually like that move alot. LL can move back to SS and springs can move to FS/NB for a few years. I also like the idea of keeping Carlos, trading Moss, Golston, and Betts - if we could get a 4th rounder for him, which is doubtful. I personally think there is a chance we secretly shop Jason Campbell, too. If Vinny and Zorn are worried about their jobs, they may be more comfortable with a proven WCO vet starting next year.
This is a really bad idea.
1) Springs is more than skilled enough to be a FS, but the problems is he has problems staying healthy at CB. He will never stay healthy at the very physical/high contact FS position. FS is a very high contact position compared to CB.
2) Why trade a young, cheap and proven player for a draft pick that given our drafting ability, will end up being a bench player.

Trading Horton would be pretty dumb. I highly doubt it would happen though.

I know we say it all the time, but I really think people play too much Madden. Some of these moves that people come up with are just ridiculous and flat out dumb at times.

Maybe we could trade Moss and sign Houshmandzadeh? Probably wishful thinking as Cincy would be pretty dumb to let him get away. I'm not sure there are any other quality #1 types out there this year.
I think Cincy is that dumb, having Housh and CJ didn't help this year, and they could have gotten some picks for CJ.

What, don't teams go for it on 4th and 10 on their own 30 yd line all the time? LOL. :smashfrea

I think every team in the NFC East is going to go hard after Housh, starting with the Giants

Horton is just me speculating, based on what I know of the Redskins desires and historical trends. I've heard nothing on him. The others are simply players who we know they are shopping, but in the case of Golston and Betts, what I believe they could reasonably get for them.
it was an excellent writeup! i actually speculated on Horton for a first or 2nd rounder in extremeskins and was ostracized. personally, i think its a good idea for the same reasons you mentioned. id much rather trade Horton than Rogers. If we can flip a 7th rounder into a 2nd rounder, we would be fools not to do it, especially considering the depth we have at safety and the fact that Landry should be playing SS, not FS, to maximize his talents. Horton is worth more to us in a trade than he is on the field, because of our depth there.

What depth at safety are you talking about?
We finally have two safety that do not have any glaring weakness' Landry and Horton. That is it. Nobody else. No depth...nothing. Please do not say Doughty, he is not the answer. Kareem Moore is not there yet. Micheal Green no.
I disagree that Landry is better suited for SS. He has been a FS his entire career except his rookie year when we had Sean Taylor at FS, so Landry was played at SS. Horton is the big hitting SS every team wants.
Why him trade away for a draft pick. That would leave a hole at safety.

because horton will be a bench player next year. blache is moving landry back to strong safety. we might as well get some value for him. hes more valuable to us in a trade for a 2nd round pick than he is to us sitting on the bench or playing in cobra formations.

Earlier in the year, Blache said his goal was for Landry to play SS. If Reed Doughty had been healthy, Horton never would have started SS and Landry could have stayed there. If you watch the games near the end of the year... Springs played alot of FS, Landry at SS, with Rogers and Hall at CB. Seemed to me to be a template for what we will do next year. We maximize our big play potential with LL at SS. I even remember Vinny C downplaying Hortons importance on his radio show.

Re: Current Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2009

I don't recall hearing Blache saying anything about wanting to move Landry back. He could have moved him back in camp but didn't and when asked about it he said:

Quote:
When asked if he likes Landry at free safety, Blache responded: "I just think he brings so much to the table for us at the free safety spot. He's such a force back there, being able to play the ball from sideline to sideline that I like...to have him back there, and until I can come up with something better or different, we're not fooling with it."

And during the season he always referred to him as his "angel" in the middle of the field.

I think with the way Horton played it would be awful tough to keep him off the field.

Carlos Rogers - 2nd Round Pick
Santana Moss - 2nd Round Pick
Kedrick Golston - 3rd Round Pick
Ladell Betts - 4th/5th Round Pick

I could see that.

good quote, but i have heard other things. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. I am very interested to see what a Kareem Moore/Landry tandem looks like.

This is nuts. Not to crap on you GTripp, because I know you wrote this and are just passing on some rumors. But trade rumors are just that, rumors. And most the time there's either nothing to them, or they never get anywhere because nobody's willing to meet the ask price.

I might make all of the above moves if I were totally dismantling my team and starting from scratch. But for God sakes people, ask yourselves, are the Redskins THAT bad? Is the team as currently comprised THAT incapable of winning? Hell, it was only like 10 weeks ago that this team as currently comprised was 6-2. There's no logic in tearing this team down at this time.

The rumors get out of hand because Vinny says the team is looking to acquire draft picks, and so all of a sudden every player is being shopped (even the affordable ones like Betts and Golston). I don't buy it for a minute, the money talks a lot louder than any rumor.
