I can see their point, kinda, I guess he wasn't "set" for a full second like you're supposed to be, but that kind of stuff happens all game long in every game around the league. It was a really, really touchy call. Not that kind of call you want to see take points off the board that's for damn sure. |

Can't really remember a call that was more painful as a skins fan. It was a mindblowing momentum swinging piece of bull sh**.
Unbelievable.

I agree smoot. Even if it did happen, it had NO bearing on the play, and it definetly is something that happens a lot. The ref should keep the flag in his pocket.

Think of it this way....
If they hadent thrown a flag, do you think Packer fan would be " Oh my god, take that TD back there was illegal motion. That guy wasent set , that guy wasent set. Illegal Motion, Illegal motion." Somehow I dont think Packer fan would be doing that, maybe cause it was a rediculous penalty that had no bearing on the play. Really it wasetn even a penalty. God what a rediculous call. |

Matty you're right on that one. I will admit Brunell missed a couple of passes today. But once again the line play was awful. The pass he missed to Cooley he didn't have time to plant and throw.

Was the flag thrown immediately upon the snap?

Man I am so pissed off. I am glad we are are not hearing too much crap about how westill should have won if only we had played better. This is the damn NFL where the difference between the best team in the league and the worst is almost nothing. You can't be expected to play both the team ooposing team and the Refs. The refs for this game ought to be suspended for one game and made to publicly apologize for the call. This is what pisses me off about Instant Replay. My feeling is that if anything is going to be reviewable then EVERYTHING should be reviewable. It makes no logical sense that we leave some calls up to the ref with other calls being reviewable. Explain to me why this play shouldn't be reviewable(versus why others are) and I will give you props. |

The call was horseshit and the more I think about it the more it pisses me off.
I know some will say you shouldn't let yourself be in a position where the refs can decide the game, BUT, in the NFL where games can be so tight and decided on just a few key plays, refs can definitely have a huge effect on the outcome. This 'penalty' wasn't one that had an effect on the play, it wasn't holding, it wasn't pass interference, and on top of everything it wasn't a clear and undisputable foul. Players set themselves like that all the time. Was he set for the full one second that the rules require? Probably not, but who does get set for a full second every time? If the refs wanted to they could call that penalty several times per game in every game around the NFL. It was just a ridiculous call, they took the game out of the hands of the players, and that's a shame. I think it's worth noting we could be 4-3 right now if it wasn't for some pathetic calls/non-calls against Dallas and now Green Bay, and it also shows just how thin the line is between winning and losing. |

Anyone else think the play-by-play guys blew hard chunks too? This was clearly a major issue either way and they barely talked about it. They also sucked all game by the way. In fact the whole production blew. How about early int eh game where Green Bay got a first down on a definitely dubious play where the receiver fell down and caught the while it was boucning around. FOX NEVER EVEN SHOWED A DAMN REPLAY!!!!!!!!! Don't the teams rely on tv to show replays so they can decide whether to callenge? There is another major flaw in the replay system. You have to rely on the networks to show replays/ This is all fine and dandy when you have the A-team like Madden adn Michales or the Joe Buck team since they get the best directors and producers as well as more cameras for more better angels. But when you get the d-team like we did we get like one guy running up an down the sideline with a digital video camera and Corky in the booth getting replays up. Damn I am pissed off. I feel need the need to start breaking things.

Ok a few answers to this thread that will go on for ever.
Sunra the flag was thrown right as the play began. I was at the game and everybody around me picked it up. The linesman on the packers side threw it. So it was not thrown during the celebration. Thrash was in motion and stopped to set himself at the line. The call is made because he has to be set for what I believe is a second. He stopped and the play went off. So this is a legitimate call but very picky. The only thing that can be said is what I said at the very begginning of the game. This game will be decied by the officials because it is Tom Whites crew. This crew has been notorius for some of the biggest foul ups in games. This should be no surprise to anybody. |

The bullshit is nobody saw when the flag actually was thrown. Why didn't they stop the play like they do when there is a false start at the line? I think the officials huddling together was about what lie would be told. Don Breaux said the officials first said it was Portis, then another said it was Thrash. Either way, like you mentioned it didn't affect the play in any way.
