how do we keep Gregg Williams???
seems obvious to me Gregg Williams is going to be the most sought after coach after this season. whats to prevent him from jetting like Marvin Lewis before him? i know unlike Lewis, he was a head coach before, but what he's done with this essentially no-name (backups) defense is near miraculous and impossible to ignore.

I really dont think hes gonna be that hot of a comodity as a head coach. One year remvoed from the disaster that was Buffalo, I dont even know if he would want to leave.

2 things will keep him here
17-31 record with Buffalo in 3 seasons He's very well paid here, I highly doubt anyone would be willing to outpay us for him And #3, who's to say he wants another HC job so soon? He's said that he's very happy coaching the D again, so who knows, maybe he really wants to stick with the D for now? |

In addition, Williams is just not a offensive coach. That was his problem in Buffalo. He still had like the number two ranked D there, but their offense sputtered up and down the feild, thats why they lost. The guy is flat out a defensive coach, while I think he will be a head coach again someday, I think, and hope it wont be for a few years. I would like to see him be our coach after Gibbs.

Plus, Gibbs probably stressed to him that this was a long term project, and asked if he could commit. I'm willing to bet the topic came up in the initial discussions.
Let's hope he's on board for at least the next 3 years as d coordinator.

Well if he does take Gibbs place, lets just hope he does better than the last defensive coordinator that took Gibbs place.

There is a bunch of coach's that will get jobs before GW. Those are Charlie Wiess, Romeo Crennel, Al Saunders, Jim Fassel, possibly even dan Reeves. I would be shocked if Williams is not here next year, even with the spectacular job he is doing.

What's the average salary of a head coach these days? 3 million¿ The only thing that will keep Williams from leaving will be a lack of desire to be a Head Coach on his part...sort of like Ray Rhodes. Then again Snyder could decide to pay him HC salary but I highly doubt it.

Who is realistically going to be needing a new HC next year? And just because Marv did up and leave last year that is because he was so desperate to get a HC job he would have taken anything offered. In fact the only reason he was our DC was because he WASNT offered a HC possition and Snyder offered him a bucket load of money.
The other interesting thing about Lewis is he didn't turn our D around . Kurt Shottenhiemer had a very good unit top 10 or top 5 ranking. Ray Rhodes however improved a unit ranked in the mid late 20s to number 4 in a year. He however is D co-ordinator in Seatle so there is no real mandate to say Greg is leaving unless he has been saying things in the press that i have not seen. |

i think GW makes more money than most HCs, he has players working well in his system already, and doesn't have the hassles a HC would have to deal with...

One thing that worries me is I've seen him walk away from Gibbs looking absolutely disgusted. Especially with clock management issues. Just hope there's not a rift between those two coaches.
