Re: PFT: Raiders shopping Michael Huff
why does everyone think we cant afford huff, did anyone say 'we cant afford taylor'?
Taylor was the 5th pick the year before huff was the 7th, so they are probably similar money, if anythign taylor was a little bit more. And the 3rd year of a rookie contract, it cant be that bad. anyone have the figures? and im not saying huff is better than taylor, im speaking purely about the fact that the skins as a team value paying two top safeties

(isn't great to have a team like the Raiders in the league so we can feel better about the skins!)

Re: PFT: Raiders shopping Michael Huff
I remember him from the Texas v. USC title game, he is definitely a good player but why are they getting rid of him so early? First warning sign, although it is the Raiders. I think we have to ideal safeties right now. Reed seems to me like what they thought Archulata was suppose to be, but without the heavy contract. I think we go with something in another post, get a savvy veteran to use in nickel and dime situations who may also tutor the Landry and Doughty. Just my opinion.

As for the cap hit, I think you're right that all of Huff's bonus would accelerate to the Raiders cap as dead money, but I don't know that we wouldn't take any cap hit by cutting him. If we inherit the contract & he's due a roster bonus, we'd have to pay him or cut him & take the same dead money cap hit. It all depends on his contract & the deal the two teams work out, but to my knowledge I don't think there's much chance that you could acquire Huff w/out having a significant cap impact. |

Re: PFT: Raiders shopping Michael Huff
Oh my god, am I the only one who thinks we need to find a way to take Kenny Phillips with #21? He even looks like ST. It's an omen. He's from Miami, he's the same size, and faster. I think he could be even better. THE U is starting to try to emulate that style of FS, and thats what I'm talking about. LaRon Landry, and Kenny Philips. WTF is wrong with that? Trade next years second round, and maybe a third round just to make it a done deal, and get Roy Williams. WR problems done. Second round take a cb if we must, or whatever. third and later rounds get some DL and OL help. You can draft a GREAT offensive unit in the later rounds. Two GREAT safeties would take some coverage pressure off Smoot, and Rogers. We don't need a CB. WR, and another breaout safety, we'll be set.

I think Doughty showed he can play SS & is a good in the box safety. I think a vet. or a late round guy that excels in coverage is needed. I would like to see Prioleau come back too. |

Re: PFT: Raiders shopping Michael Huff
safety is not a huge priority.
DE, WR, OL, & CB are our hig priority targets. I thought we all knew that. Taking anything ther than those positions in the 1st round would be counter productive.

Second, I just watched Kenny Phillips' highlights.. He looks good, I have to admit.. But to tell you truth, I would prefer if we go after Brandon Flowers.. He really impressed me.. But I would not mind if we go after Phillips too, only if Flowers is taken before us.. Third, Rogers won't be ready until maybe middle of Sept - depends on his recover progressing. So, unless we sign a nickel back through free agency, we need to draft a CB.. Especially when Springs might not be back for 2009 season.. For those people who wants to see Kenny Phillips' highlights or Brandon Flowers'.. YouTube - Kenny Phillips Highlights YouTube - Virginia Tech's Brandon Flowers |

Re: PFT: Raiders shopping Michael Huff
Also, after Sweed re-inventing himself at the Combine, I'm not too sold on Campbell. We should go after Sweed if Vinny has something to do with it. He's young, and I'm sure that wrist is fine. He ran super at the combine. He got moved up from early second round, to middle first. Limas Sweed baby!

Landry looked better at Free so not sure if Huff is a good fit at strong for us. He seems to not have a physical presence needed for strong according to the Raiders. Doughty solid against the run last year. We would have to give up too much here lets pass!

We have a ton of money tied up on current WR's, some that have not panned out. Throwing more money at WR is a luxury not a serious need like DE or OG where we are thin and old. Yes Brandon Lloyd has been a bust, but WR's are available all the time. A good/young safety is not that easy to find. |
