Re: Is Tom Brady the best QB ever?
I have always believed that it is very difficult to compare quarterbacks from different eras. I felt the same way when people were saying that Joe Montana was arguably the best quarterback of all time.
The game has changed alot from the thirties, since Sammy Baugh introduced the forward pass to the game. Heck, it's changed a lot from the late 90's with new rules barring cb from mauling WR's, in the way Chris Dishman did and especially the way the Pats used to do. I feel Tom Brady is the best quarterback from this era, with Peyton Manning not too far behind. I feel both of these quarterbacks could play in any system and succeed, but I'd love to see Petyon play with average WR's as Tom Brady did prior to this season. Brady made all receivers around him better than they actually were, such as Deion Branch whom has virtually disappeared since leaving the Pats. Anyway, that is my answer, and I will always feel that way. It is the same for almost all positions, as it is very difficult to compare skilled positions of today to past eras. The easiest skill position to compare would be RB's, but it is still difficult, because defenses are much better now than before as they aren't read and react defenses like they were back in the 80's, early 90's and prior to this. I hope this helps. |
