there's a pretty good perspective article on this on CNNSI.com
SI.com - Writers - Ross Tucker: Coaching changes tough for players, too - Wednesday January 23, 2008 11:38AM

Its written by Ross Tucker...one time Redskin, and it has good insight into how this kind of change affects players even if they aren't let go

Well that's a ringing endorsement of the coach he likes so much.

Of course, other coaches are not in the know when it comes to interviews between Danny and GW. Maybe Danny thinks it won't work with GW. But it's never good when coaches around the league think you're a joke.
Ditto. Gibbs brought instant respectability to the franchise and no matter what went on behind the scenes the impression was Gibbs was in charge. Right now if this article is accurate, the perception from people in the NFL is that the franchise is back in disarray. Not exactly a good way to attract or retain the best coaches and free agent players.

The sky is not falling...yet. But Snyder needs to make a move within the next day or two and not let this drag on or this perception will take hold and in many peoples minds around the NFL be a reality.

Come on, thats the perspective of players on 2 of the worse teams in the NFL. Thats not the case here yes some players will go but I'm sure who ever comes here is not cleaning house and with our cap they couldn't if they wanted to.

The process to hire a new coach is intended to be thoughtful and deliberate.

I happen to think the Redskin assistant coaches are great! I am much more reserved about Cerrato. Someone has to take responsibility for the woeful use of draft choices over the past several years. Isn't it him?

Most of the time, the only reason why a person who knows layoffs are looming works their ass off is because they're hoping to somehow get spared.

And Yes, people do take that kind of shit personally.
I understand where you are coming from and I realize it is fucked up when your job is on the line like this. Don't get me wrong, I do sympathize, but at the same time this is what comes with working in the NFL. Also the 3-4 change is a good point.

My main point is I do not think this issue is a Redskins-exclusive problem.
Of course we want to think about it that way, because it is easy to blame Danny and VC. Imagine teams that fire their coach midseason, etc? The head coaching job is very turbulent in the NFL, and this is what comes with the waters.

I'd like to know which scouts are doing the "laughing". The ones who recommended taking JaMarcus Russell with the first pick last year? Or the ones who thought Jammal Anderson was a top ten prospect?

Way to budget your time well, guys.

In the real world when layoffs are imminent the folks that are talented don't continue to work their asses off, they find greener pastures and bail. Those that stick around usually do so because they aren't in demand and don't have other options.

I'm not saying that the new coach will not be solid, or that the players will all be looking to get out of dodge, but if the outside perception of your company / NFL franchise is that it is managed poorly that is a huge negative in attracting talented people.

Probably the ones not in danger of getting fired.

Anyone else think it's pretty lame that our front office hasn't even given our assistants the courtesy of a phone call during this head coach search? I know "freak out" threads are frowned upon, and that's not the intention here. But I'm pretty upset with the way we're treating our staff.

Clipped this from the post:
Players and coaches are distraught over the poorly worded press release regarding Cerrato's promotion and Jim Fassel's emergence as a candidate with multiple interviews. They are taking a lot of grief from other team''s people down there and, according to some league sources, the word "laughingstock" is being thrown around in regards to how the team is operating.

Which coaches are down there? Does anybody know? Or is it scouts?

Perhaps, but he's his own worst enemy.

Matty:

Agree Danny Boy is in a tough spot here - even though it is mostly of his own making. But talking to the coaches might do something if the conversation had something to do with their future with the team. Are Skins' coaches at the Senior Bowl looking for talent or are they there looking for jobs for themselves? In times of uncertainty, it would be natural for them to be doing both - - and that means they won't be doing the talent-search function as best they can.

Snyder is keeping things as hush-hush as possible. And that seems to apply across the board, coaches included. As least he's consistent.
