Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

Well the Gibbs presser was upsetting. Gibbs was obviously upset, and basically no new information except that he didn't know why Taylor was in Miami last night. But he did say that he has no policy against players going home unless they're going to miss something.

You are spot on. The 'angry black man' stereo-type is exactly what we are seeing in the reporting of this incident and Wilbon is no different than any of the other media outlets. Even if this incident is somehow tied to previous events such as the ATV incident (which obviously we don't know), that does not change the fact that Sean has matured greatly, has become a student of the game, and was living life for his family. Wilbon is just wrong and he should admit as much publicly, though I know he never will.

Most articles say this unfortunately
Yeah, I just don't know if that is the case and hoping that it is not. If it was severed around 1:45 a.m. and the cops didn't get there until 2:00, he probably didn't reach the hospital for at least 30 minutes. Given the timeline and the tone of his attorney's statements (and I'm speculating here), I don't think things look too good for Sean. This has to be the worst thing that I can recall happening to the Redskins organization and fans.

Rave, you hit. I usually gobble up Wilbon's commentary hook, line, and sinker. Not this time...and not just because it's a Redskin involved. My favorite Redskin, mind you.

My critisim of the media, and specifically Wilbon, is that Taylor is being characterized as a young angry black man. While I'm not defending any of Taylor's past actions, (and this really isn't the forum to be discusing it, but since you struck a nerve) it's so convenient for the media to cast him in a negative light. Whatever happened to the human component of reporting? Since when does "freedom of speech" give us license to kick someone when they're down and futher dehumanize them?

As far as I'm concerned, the bigger and unfortunate tragady here, is not the victim in this incident, Sean Taylor, but how we as civilized human beings can be so hypocritical and darn right judgemental.

I wonder which one does Mike Wilbon think is worse - the murder of an individual or the murder of one's character?

Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

Profootballtalk.com/rumormill is "reporting" the following:

CONFLICTING INFORMATION ON TAYLOR by Michael David Smith

Redskins safety Sean Taylor is in critical condition in a Miami hospital, and there is conflicting information about his prognosis.

Amy Shipley of the Washington Post said on ESPNews this afternoon that "Several family members have told us he's doing alright."

However, Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald reports that family and friends of Taylor told him that the gunshot wound to his femoral artery caused so much blood loss that it has affected his brain, and Taylor is expected to have "a long road back to recovery."

Although at this point everyone is more concerned about Taylor's life than his football career, Navarro reports that sources told him Taylor's playing career is likely over.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that was back in Miami this weekend because he wanted to check in on his home, which was robbed last week, and because he wanted to get a second opinion on his knee from Dr. John Uribe. It is not known whether there is any connection between the incident at his home last week and the shooting early this morning.

Taylor is engaged to be married to his longtime girlfriend. He has a 1-year-old son.

Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

I don't know ST from Adam, I'm not going to act like I do, I'm also white as a snowflake and I cannot even begin to act as though I am "down with the struggle" like Wilbon seems to think he is. All I can do is go by what I've seen in the papers, and ST doesn't strike me as a "Pacman Jones" type of person or some type of black crusader born and raised in the hood. He seems like if anything he was a little naive and immature to start out, and made a few bad choices...the justice system has taken it's course, ST has paid his penalties and stayed clean since...IMO Wilbon needs to come down off his sanctimonious high horse and STFU...

According to Washington Post Live, Taylor has been "unresponsive" since the shooting. I do not know whether that is because he is in a coma induced by the blood loss, a coma induced by the doctors, or because he has lost all brain function.

Ok, this statement does not make any sense as it would be way to early to tell if he has any brain damage.

Good question. I think if he was brain dead, they'd just out right say it. Or maybe they wouldn't. Unresponsive to me, the first thing I would think of is a coma. Until I hear that he's brain dead, I'm at least praying for a recovery. Any type of recovery, so long as he's alive.

One thing seems certain to me. Whoever reported that the artery was completely severed is wrong. He would have been pronounced dead twelve hours ago. As many have pointed out he would have quickly bled to death before any paramedics even got to him let alone flew him to the hospital. The fact that the doctors operated on him certainly means that he was still alive. If the artery was completely severed and it took thirty or fourty minutes or something to get him to the operating table he would be dead and it wouldn't be some big secret.

Yup. If I was told, you can leave things up to chance, or he can live but never play another down, I'd take the latter.
