Re: Gibbs Alludes to Mark Rypien
As a QB you have to have a little timer in your head, you have to have instincts. There is that 6th sense that many great QBs have that tells them there is someone right behind them and that they need to tuck the ball or get rid of it. I'm not saying JC won't be great but that timer has got to develop sooner or later, our offensive line can't hold the defensive line on every single play, every single game.

Re: Gibbs Alludes to Mark Rypien
I have been frustrated with JC, I guess maybe with some of the success he has had and as good as he looks at times I forget he has only been the starter for half of last season and the begining of this season. As many fingers that are pointing at JC there are 4 left over to be pointing at others. Portis 2 fumbles, Moss one fumble. Several dropped passes and at times lack of blocking. It is easy to point out the QB as the problem area because he is the point man, he is the leader, he pulls the trigger. JC is young he is going to make mistakes, it is part of being a QB. however he does make alot of plays also, he put us in the position to win those games and he will learn from his mistakes and will correct him. JC is a worker and he is a gamer, those are the things I take from. JC will be a good QB in this league, he works to hard not to be.

Re: Gibbs Alludes to Mark Rypien
This just proves that JC should have been the starter all of last year, and these growing pains would have occured at a less costly moment

It's not like he's never going to make mistakes again. I mean look at former SB Champ and NFL MVP Kurt Warner yesterday, or former SB Champ and NFL MVP Peyton Manning two weeks ago. Happens even to the best.

Re: Gibbs Alludes to Mark Rypien
Boy, I really hate bringing this up, but Andy Polin had a good question regarding Gibbs and personnel moves as it relates to this conversation:
Would Gibbs be more or less likely to continue playing guys who under-perform if he weren't the one making the decision to bring them here? The question was posed when someone asked if anyone other than Portis had fumbled twice in one half if they would see the field for the rest of the day. In the Bobby Beathard days, Gibbs would have no personal interest in any player, play the guy who gives his team the best chance to win, bench the players who f up, and have no guilt about it. But now, there could be a tendency to prove a point, by trying to confirm that the players he has acquired are the right guys no matter what they do or how badly they play. I think it's a legitimate question considering the personnel structure we have here. |

Re: Gibbs Alludes to Mark Rypien
But see, even with Lloyd and Archuleta, those were guys reportedly suggested by Saunders and Gregg Williams respectively. Not Gibbs, so again, he had no personal connection with those guys.
Would Gibbs have put up with two fumbles from one running back in such a short span if it were any other player? Can't we agree that he never would have stood for that back in the heyday? |

But I'm not going to lie, I don't hold anything Polin or Czaban (was he doing the show with Czaban?) opine with much respect. They've proven to me over and over again to be petty people. It's personal.

Re: Gibbs Alludes to Mark Rypien
Alrighty then. I think there could be something to it. For the record, I'm against calling for any of the coaches to step down, I just think there needs to be a change with the personnel structure.
It was the Sports Reporters on SportsTalk 980. Czaban I can understand, because he can be scathing with his opinions. Polin though, seems more level headed, not as vicious; but he's not afraid to call it like he sees it. The thing to remember though is that they are both fans. Just highly critical fans -- basically the opposite of the kool aid types. |

How would Brunell do at the helm of this offense?

Re: Gibbs Alludes to Mark Rypien
Gibbs won't pull JC, he is just voicing concern. However the Danny will pull Gibbs and I see a certain Pittsburg coach in our future.
