They believe the situation is stabalizing, and are obviously hoping for the best."

At least that's something positive in this horrible situation...

Jackson Memorial is a very good center down there with a very competent surgery department. All we can do is hope he makes it through surgery at this point...
Any thoughts on recovery from this? Will he be able to walk around without aid after surgery and rehab or is he likely to suffer debilitating effects from this? Forget the football aspect, this dude got shot in his own home; just like any of us could have been. That's what bothers me the most; if he gets shot running around doing crap he knows better than to do, ehh, tough sh*t for him. But to be shot at your house during what is arguably becoming your best year as a professional football player with regards to conduct and ability. That's tragedy.

Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

I work at a major hospital in San Antonio and spoke to one doctor about this and this is what I learned from our conversations:

"It mainly hinges on how bad the femoral artery was damaged. If they can keep him from bleeding out long enough to repair it then he has a pretty good shot. Not a good situation anyway you look at it. The fact that they were able to get him to a hospital before he did bleed out is Huge. That artery can pump out 3-5 liters a minute so considering the average human has about 5-6 liters in there entire body its very important to stop the bleeding at once."

I hope that he will be alright. Something like this is career ending.

At this point I am not so much worried about his career as I am to the alternative. Which I refuse to even mention.

At this point career ending is a good thing. It means he's alive at least.

There was a doctor on the radio who was talking about this. The artery which was hit suplies blood to the lower half of his body. He is probably out of surgery and is in critical condition due to the loss of blood. The good news was that he made it to the hosptle and through surgery. Bad news is it could affect other organs in the body and he could lose a limb due to the loss of blood. The other good news was because he is in such good health it would help the body from all of the blood loss and also help in the healing. He also noted that he could have been taking medcine for his knee which could make the bleeding worse.

God Bless Sean Taylor and his family. He has a young child. Keep praying, that's all we can do to help.

I believe that the femoral nerve that runs beside the artery controls the upper leg motion down to the knee. If he survives, but has nerve damage there, we may be looking at a career ending injury.

Depending on the extent of the damage, whether the nerve was nicked or severed; this will determine the course of his physical rehabilitation. Still to early to determine that. At this point, he needs to make it out of surgery. From there, he'll need to get out of the surgical ICU. And so on...

Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

I thought I'd just point out that Sean is only 24.

I think sometimes we lose sight of the fact that a lot of the "men" playing this game are really just kids, many fresh out of college.
