Re: The Official 2007 Draft Discussion Thread

Hey if you're the Raiders do you take Greg Olsen to help out as a safety valve for your new QB or do you protect him with an OL like Arron Sears?

Re: The Official 2007 Draft Discussion Thread

From ESPN Insider

6. Washington Redskins
The pick: LaRon Landry, S, LSU
Scouts take: It's impossible to say whether or not this is the perfect move for Washington at this point because the Redskins have so few picks and no one knows exactly what transpired in terms of trade offers leading up to the pick. If they weren't offered quality value for the pick, then taking Landry is an excellent move. Though the Redskins have more pressing needs than safety, it is a need and there's nothing Landry can't do. He is a tough run defender who takes the shortest path to the ball and delivers big hits. He times hits well and punishes receivers that go over the middle. He can cover the deep half of the field and can match up with slot receivers.

One area of concern is his ability to play the ball when it's in the air, but he has adequate ball skills and he should benefit from lining up next to Sean Taylor. Taylor's excellent range and ability to play a center fielder-type role will help protect Landry. Finally, having such talented safeties gives the Redskins more freedom in terms of mixing as well as hiding coverages and helps the pass rush out by forcing quarterbacks to hold on to the ball longer.

Enough said. Anybody outside of Skinsdom will debate this pick only because their team wanted Landry. Inside, they really hate us.

DAL fared way better than NE did tradewise that's for sure.

One of my closest friends is a huge Falcons fan. First thing he said while he was on the phone with me today was "I hate you."

Next years draft class looks to be a good one. Dallas is trading up to get second round talent at a first round price. Of course they'll have a top 15 pick next year.

They'll probably need them too.

1- Don't count out Cleveland for a turn around. They got Steinbach and Lewis, and now they have a very good tackle, and a franchise qb. They already made huge strides on D last year, and they have some viable weapons on offense.

2- What happened to Alan Branch? i don't even see him on Kiper's overall draft board. I thought he was supposed to be a top 15 pick, now it's looking like he's a 3rd round pick?

3- Cowboys suck. Nuff said.

Too late. ARZ selected Branch, first pick in the second. I'm not sure why he slid this far. The injury (fractured shins) weren't cited or confirmed and it's hard that the experts judged him on lack of productivity and laziness when he singlehandedly anchored NCAAs best defense! I mean look at how he boosted productivity for his teammates Leon Hall 3 INTs 15 PBUs 45 tackles and Lamar Woodley 12 sacks 36 tackles 16.5 TFLs.

Congrats, you called a pick that doesn't help our needs.

And how exactly are we going to get more draft picks when we have a 5th rounder coming up?

I wouldn't mind trading someone for WR Jarrett. I think he's the real deal. But who would we trade?

Damn sure doesn't hurt um. He was the BEST available. NICE MOVE!

Why would it NOT help our needs?
