Re: Mare Expected To Be Cut Or Traded
Well we could look at him. The guide would say "and here we see a man who used to be a quality kicker in the NFL, but that was about 5 yrs ago."
And we could stand in front of him and get our photo taken. ~Bang

Yep, because the Cowboys thought they were better off with Vandershank. You know, he's got that great percentage and all. ~Bang

Re: Mare Expected To Be Cut Or Traded
I think we should bring in the five best guys we can find and just have straight up shootout from 50 yards. Whoever makes the most out of ten gets the job. Ties decided by best kickoff distance average of ten kicks. Do at half-time of the first home pre-season game to at least simulate a modicum of pressure. No excuse, no equivication.

Re: Mare Expected To Be Cut Or Traded
young, and with a pretty good leg. in his mini audition with us last season, did good enough to at least start out as the skins kicker

Re: Mare Expected To Be Cut Or Traded
I remember reading an article several seasons ago where the general consensus among personell people was that there were about 3-4 good kickers and then like 30-40 guys who were just about the same. At one point Mare was probably one of the 3-4 good ones but now he is just one of the others. I don't think Suisham is any better or worse but he does have his age(less money) and upside. Mare's on the down side. Let's just let Suisham have the job. Show him some confidence and hopefully that'll keep his up. I think the confidence is incredibly important in these guys. No need to mess with it in this situation.

Re: Mare Expected To Be Cut Or Traded
signing mare would be wasted money.
he's a lateral move from who we've got, and a much older guy too. |

Re: Mare Expected To Be Cut Or Traded
He has earned the right to have a shot.
Larry Michael suggested we get Mark Mosely to teach him how to kick straight on so he can play 20 years..............sounds reasonable

Re: Mare Expected To Be Cut Or Traded
Suisham deserves the spot, and it'd be nice to keep some continuity there. Kickers develop timing w/holders & snappers.
The boys let him go cause the Tuna is impatient w/kickers, a flaw of his coaching that deserves a lot more scrutiny that he's ever gotten. Remember how he booted cundiff & brought in the Latino dude (forgot his name) that Larry Allen was about to crush one game? They might've made the playoffs that year if they'd stuck w/cundiff. |
