Especially after the last few guys didn't exactly set the world on fire in that "great" system.
When Alex Gibbs left for Atlanta, their system went with him. And that system is basically that the o-line plays as dirty as possible and makes ever d-lineman/linebacker fear for their knees (and careers), causing them to hesitate, which allows rb's to get loose.

Great post.

It's hard for a lot of fans and media members to understand that great players are the only method of producing continued success. Obviously the Denver running system has been successful for awhile, but only among the leagues' best when a guy like Portis or Mike Anderson or Terrell Davis had the football. Mike Shanahan obviously has a knack for noticing RB talent, and the Denver O line has been underrated for years, but that doesn't mean the cut block system is any "better" than anyother zone or man blocking system. It's just different. Players make it successful.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. People can gloat all day about Mike Shanahan and Denver's system for running backs. But he hasn't won 3 Super Bowls with 3 different running backs, Gibbs has (4 really, when you consider George Rogers was the man all year long in '87). And yes Portis is a system back...the NFL system.

Why isn't anyone wondering why Detroit needs the Tatum Tot when they have KJones? What do they know that we don't know??

What a horrible trade for FF players everywhere.

You know what else pisses me off about Denver: I feel like they go out every offseason and get as many, if not more, free agents as we do but everyone always pisses on us for trying to build through free agency. I guess the difference is that they make the playoffs pretty consistently, but it's not like they usually go very far once they get there. I used to like the broncos but the more I think about it the more I say "F them."

Kevin Jones actually suffered a serious leg injury last year. He will not be back until the middle of the season, and he may not return to the back he used to be. Tatum Bell is an insurance policy at best and at worst the next great Detroit Lions featured running back.

Travis Henry is about to be cut by the Titans because they don't want to pay him a $8M bonus. With rumors of McGahee being traded, have you heard anything about the Bills looking at Henry again? I never understood why you guys didn't keep him, he looked good in Buffalo and Nashville.

"Next" great Lions back? Sanders, o.k. Who was great besides him? Artose Pinner?

I would be skeptical of Tatum if he couldn't thrive in Denver.
