Re: BREAKING NEWS: Bill Parcells Retires

Could you imagine if Norv was hired. He'd be the only guy in history to be able to say he was a head coach under Dan Snyder, Al Davis, and Jerry Jones. He could write a book about that.

I'm a little peeved that Parcells had to make this announcement today. This day should have been about the Colts and Bears. Peyton, Dungy, Lovie. But instead it's been all about Parcells. He could have waited another day in my opinion.

Interesting though that he said "retiring from coaching" To me that says he's definitely coming back as a GM or team president somewhere. I'll throw out one possibility-Tampa Bay,

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Bill Parcells Retires

To be honest. I don't think this is great news at all. There are a lot of high quality coaches out there who could have the Cowboys winning year in and year out. They have a team with solid players on there to inherit. But, if this coming season turns out to be a stinker for both New York and Dallas, this might be our best chance at winning the division.

The Colts and Bears have 2 weeks to hype their matchup. Today is a good day, since it is day 1 of 14 until we reach the SB. Maybe he could have waited until after the SB, but better than announcing it yesterday or even a say or two before Championship Sunday.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Bill Parcells Retires

Well I wasn't even thinking so much of hyping their upcoming matchup. More so celebrating their big wins.

So how soon until someone starts a Parcells to succeed Gibbs rumor?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing today, the announcement kinda stole the Bears and Colts thunder. Damn that Pats-Colts game was great.

I was thinking the "Gibbs is right behind Parcells" rumor is coming any second.

Well (from the Cowboys' perspective), he should've made it right after Romo's bobble so that the Cowboys could jump in the coach auctions before the good ones were all taken (except Grimm but he won't go to Dallas).

Norv Turner in Dallas would be hilarious...hopefully he can work his "wonders" for them too.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Bill Parcells Retires

the espn guys said today that norv turner, wad phillips.jayson garrett, and bob stoops are on jones list.they said phillips/garrett would be titled kinda like the skins are with wade phillips, head coach defense, and garrett assistant head coach-offense.hey,even without the head coaching job, norv has worked for jerry jones!

Parcells' legacy with the Cowboys can be framed this way: Instead of joining Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer as coaches who led them to championships, he leaves lumped with Chan Gailey and Dave Campo.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Bill Parcells Retires

I just read some of the comments at this site:

The Dallas Morning News | Cowboys Blog E-mail This Entry

I can't believe how pissed they all were at Parcells BEFORE he retired! I know they faltered at the end of the year, but he put together a good team & was over .500 three out of 4 years.
My wife is a cowpokes fan & she was sad to see him go, but it looks like she might be in the minority.

SI.com - Photo Gallery - Potential Cowboys Coaches

Here are some possible replacements, according to SI.com; although 10 people is hardly narrowing it down.
