Again, I don't see this going anywhere positive.

In all honesty SGG, I'm not sure it's "hoyle" to post your point of view(although I probably agree with most of it), and then suggest the subject matter is out of bounds?

Re: Beatdown Galore

If kids want to throw rocks, they have to be ready for a beatdown in return.

Here in the states, you throw rocks at someone, and the police catch you, you get charged with assault. If you throw rocks at someone and the police are not around, a lot of people will try to kick your ass.

I don't see anything wrong here. They threw rocks, they took a beating. Big deal. They'll live.

Just to add a different perspective...

Here in the States we know throwing rocks is a chargeable offense no matter the circumstances but I wonder what is the lawful punishment in the Arab world. I only ask because isn't the practice of "stoning" still used as a punishment? Do the people really think that they are breaking the law by throwing stones at a group of people whom they believe are "the bad guys"? In the Arab world, are the youths justified by throwing rocks at a foreign occupant?

to give you the counter of that, what do you think wouldve happened if those kids were to throw rocks at their own soldiers? Or the other side of the civil wars soldiers? I doubt the there would have been any such leniancy

Better question, if you're a soldier and someone's throwing rocks at you, what are you going to do about it? Stand there and let them do it because they believe you've broken the law???

That point makes no sense. The cultural sensitivity is great and all 724, but definitely taking it too far. There was no stoning taking place there. They hurled rocks because either A) they hate the occupying soldiers or B) they were just being punk kids. Either way, you can't throw rocks and not expect a beating, I don't care what culture you come from.

Yeah, you're right. I guess I couldn't resist posting my opinion.

I don't actually oppose the discussion of politics here (at least in theory). What I don't like to see are personal attacks which these kinds of threads usually lead to.

yeah, and i can see the press now, if that video was of troops shooting kids. give me a break. most U.S. soldiers do not yearn for the chance to shoot a child. that would be something that would stick with you your entire life. even if the kid deserved it

Yeah... I sort of have taken a conservative approach to these poltical threads. When it appears some elevated discourse may take place... then its all good. I'll post away.

However, Alot of posters on here can't even talk about a football team w/ out getting emotional, much less discuss something meaningful and potentially nerve racking such as politics.

Someones toes are always stepped on, so I tread cautiously through this kind of stuff.

Re: Beatdown Galore

and shooting kids embodies the classic example of something that will offend someone really really quick.

As you said, it is indeed a provocative issue

If someone throws a rock at me, I throw a bigger rock back at them, in any part of this world. I was curious to know how the Arab world views images of kids throwing stones at not just American soldiers but any group that has done a perceived wrong. At what level is rock throwing taken over there? Criminal or simply as Harrassment/Protest?

Very true.

It's unfortunate that so many people are incapable of having a constructive political / philosophical debate with resorting to name calling and profanity.

Re: Beatdown Galore

Actually, I thought the discussion regarding a very volatile issue had proceeded rather civilly to this point
