Internet Problems

I have a problem that I think NYSkins fan was/still having/has. I cannot get to certains sites, the big one is Yahoo! . For some reason I cannot get onto that site with Firefox or Explorer. I cleared my cache and all that good stuff. Do I have a virus or something?

It sucks because I cant check my FF at home. The wierd thing is when I was home during break, I could get online at home with the wireless router there, but now back at school I cant get on yahoo, findago.com/series and other sites that I really want to get on.

Anyone here that can help me out?

Re: Internet Problems

Go and download free versions of ad-ware and spy-ware scans. They will scan your system for problems and you can clear them. I will get a link or 2 when I find them. I have 2 scanning programs and they help tremendiously. Also, if you right click on your explorer icon and click on properties, you can clear your temporary internet files or cookies by selecting "delete cookies" this may help your explorer run better.

Ad-Aware @ Lavasoft - The Original Anti-Spyware Company - ad-aware
AntiVirus - AntiSpam - Firewall Software, Data Security, Free Protection - bitdefender virus scan

both have good free version and both are the best at what they do.

I suggested this to NY_Skinsfan and it might work for you. Check out the file called "hosts" in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and open it in Notepad

Make sure that Yahoo isn't on there or anything else. Do you have a third party firewall program?

Re: Internet Problems

First, make sure you're not having dns problems...

start->run
type cmd and hit OK
...black box pops up...
type nslookup yahoo.com
hit enter

If DNS is working correctly, should see something like...
Name: yahoo.com
Addresses: 216.109.112.135, 66.94.234.13

If you don't get these results, then you (read ISP) most likely have a DNS problem. If you do get these results, then it could be spyware, firewall problems, etc etc etc

Re: Internet Problems

Did you try dipping your balls in exotic oils, a la AMD?

That always works for me

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: yahoo.com
Addresses: 216.109.112.135, 66.94.234.13

This is what it says. I think it basically what it should say. Thanks for the help though.

And TMC I tried what you told me and the file labeled "HOSTS" was completely empty.

Re: Internet Problems

I'm not sure that we have/had the same problem. The fact that you can get an IP address suggests that it is not a dns problem as cpayne suggested. I couldn't even get that far. You can try ipconfig /flushdns from the cmd window. If not, onlydarksets suggested OpenDNS > Get Started. That is what did it for me. Also, there are other domain names that you can try but I think you should go to Matty for those.
