Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?

What a game on Sunday. I wrote us off, and wouldn't even consider looking at the play-off scenario.

If our defense plays like it did on Sunday, I'll atleast glance at the rest of the NFL results now...
----------------------------

Also, I think we can confirm that our injuries in the secondary sealed the fate of our defense for the first half of our season.

It probably wasn't the lack of GW's schemes and what not. It may be pre-mature, but when you shut down arguably the best WR in the NFL, it says something about your secondary.

Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?

Look at all the teams that are reeling right now in the nfc but sill alive :
vikes, rams, panthers, giants, falcons, seahawks & saints to some degree too. Even the bears got whipped yesterday, lucky to have made it that close.
Other than the bears, nobody has a clear lock on their division. If the cowpokes win sunday they will have a big 2 game edge, but if the g-men win its still up for grabs. even the iggles are still in it, but I don't think they can put together that many wins. WE win, anything can happen.

Speaking of our secondary, did you guys notice that we had a HUGE pass rush this game? Reading that GW article and thinking about what they said about getting "cute" with stunts, it made me think: Did GW just let them go? We were getting a consistent pass rush all day long. Carter is giving me hope on him once again. He was in Delhomme's face as well as Griffin and Golston.

I agree, the increased effort all around caused hell for delhomme and co.

The increased pass pass coverage made him hold on for that extra half second, thus helping our d-rush as well. The increased pressure, cause in-accurate throws... etc...

Shed's light on the whole "play as a team" concept that's been so foreign to the defense.

I'm so excited that we won and the Giants lost AND the Eagles lost. Last night I went over it in my head. If we win the next two (including beating the Eagles), and the Giants lose to Dallas next week AND the following week, and the Eagles lose next week.... WE ARE IN SECOND PLACE!!

we've needed that for what, 14 years now...hopefully it lasts for more then one game. Either way I still want a stud DE in the draft this year.

Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?

As do I. I also want (if that was the case) for GW to just let his guys rush and forget about stunts. It seems it works better when they just let the guys bull rush people.

In my opinion, jobs are on the line. Either they play like they mean it and the coaches get over themselves or they are out. Glad they stepped up!

Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?

You know who I feel is earning a roster spot for next year even though he was the whipping boy earlier? Kenny Wright.

When playing in the nickel position like he was MEANT to be, he has played exceedingly well.

I agree about Wright. I like him.

Sean Taylor is a god, god, god!!!! I love watching the Skins play just so I can see who he hits next. Simply unbelievable.

Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?

May be pointless, ignorant, etc...

But could 8-8 get us in this year?

Look at the match-ups... It almost seems like the NFC is THAT bad. Not losing any sleep over it, but hell, if theres going to be a year to make a comeback, the NFC is certainly not our foe at this point.

Who knows.

Regardless, this team is an extremely different one then several weeks ago, and anything could happen. I can't help but ge this little, itty bitty, atomic sized hope way in the back of my head. Win 2 more, and that hope may be in everyones face.

-I'll shut up for now.

Looking more at our remaining schedule and our statistical projection for the team in the 2nd half (which basically says that we've simply underachieved this year, and should be expected to slowly climb back towards our previously lofty mean espicially on defense over the next few weeks), I think it's more than probable that we beat a struggling Atlanta and a banged up Philadelphia team at home these next 2 weeks.

If we do what we should do, that puts us at 6-7 and having to play 2 difficult road games. So yeah, a playoff run is still unlikely. But all I'm saying is that 2 weeks from now, it's very possible that we could be playing better football than either the Rams or Saints.

I DON'T think we can do it without Clinton Portis, Jason Campbell still very much learning on the job, and next to no kicking game whatsoever. But unless you believe that the playoff teams will be NYG, DAL, CAR, NO, CHI and SEA (3 of those teams are struggling), if you start looking for darkhorses to get to the magic 9 win number, it's like Atlanta, Minnesota, and Washington.

So yeah, season is un-over now.

Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?

The problem with Atlanta is that they've lost 4 in a row.. and they will be VERY hungry to win next week. They will not give up.

Very true, but I like us at home, hopefully in the cold. The colder the better because even though they have the number 1 running attack in the NFL, Vick is noticibly more timid in cold weather. Runs less, throws quicker, etc.

We can't let up on D, but I forsee another dominating defensive performance.

I think Phili will be the tougher game of the two. Unless AJ Feely gets the start. That will just be funny.
