Ok well someone has to be not so excited right? hahaha

I mean... I think Portis is may possibly be the best back in all of football (an EYE_POPPING 5.5 yds/carry avg. each of first 2 years... find someone who can come close to THAT)... BUT

Champ IS the best cover corner in football, and he's only 25!!

Straight up.. player for player? That is KINDA shady enough, considering the fact that Portis in the near future will be expecting money EXCEEDING Bailey's piddely (in comparison) 55 MIL deal. I personally think a cheaper, reliable back can be found in the draft or cheaper in Free Agency. I mean... runners are a product of their systems for the most part, using Denver as the perfect example (Davis, Gary, Anderson, Portis, Griffin).

A 2nd round pick too?? HELL NO. Can ANYONE say DEFENSE????

You mean to tell me we'd be down a 2nd and 3rd round pick this year AND the best player on our defense that was ranked in the 20's in most categories??? That wouldn't bother anyone?

And to say, well we'll get them through free agency is a little naive considering what we have guaranteed Brunell and would have to pay Portis to make him happy he is coming to DC.

Damn I'd love to see CP run for us... but I'd rather draft a Greg Jones, Chirs Perry or Quincy Wilson outside the 1st round, let them compete with Betts and McCullough in camp for the job and use our 2 FISRT ROUND PICKS (one from dealing Champ to the Lions for the 6th overall) on 2 young defensive STUDS... that we need so desperately! .... but that's just me... and I am certainly no expert.

By the way... welcome back WARPATH! Come checkout the new Maddenskins I have at my site... the link is down here in my signature

I think the main setback in this , is that we wont be drafting Sean Taylor if we get this trade. I juts say that cause I think we will have to trade up and get a second back. Draft a Udeze, maybe a Starks in the second and were sitting pretty. I LOVE This trade, As for those guys going to help pack, If you need any help, lemme know, I'll drive the forklift

I don't like it. Straight up trade would be okay, but they want our 2nd, too? No way, they should be giving us their 2nd (or at least a 3rd) and Portis for Champ. RBs come a dime a dozen, but a shut down corner is hard to come by.

This is why, in my opinion, straight up is a steal. I mean the second rounder, its sketchy but oh well, we were gonan draft a RB there proboly anyways.... but straight up, Champ is a CB , and its harder to come by a great corner than a great RB. BUT you need a great RB A HELL of alot more than you need a CB. I mean we can throw a average CB back there, beef up the dline and boom, were in business. If we dont have a good Runner Back there, especially in Gibbs offense, we are , in fact screwed.

Latest I saw is Detroit have pulled out, apparently because we insisted on their 1st and 2nd picks.

Also more are tapping Denver on the possibility of picking up Portis.

All things being equal, considering the cost (2nd round pick), I'd shy away and look at the Seattle trade, assuming it's genuine and they are still interested. Alexander would be able to grind out the tough yards and we could use Canidate/McCullough as alternates. I'd also trade Betts for picks, so we can bolster the depth.

I agree with those that say we shouldn't be sending a 2nd rounder to denver in addition to champ, but what if we sent a pick from next years draft, gives us the ability to draft now for a need and allows all of our backups to be in the gibbs system for a year to compete and learn...lets face it this day and age we are going to have atleast one hole in the team because of salary cap, but with a good coach that hole will be much less noticeable.

....trading period doesn't start until March 3. That's why you haven't seen Mark Brunell hold up Hasselbeck's no. 8 jersey yet.

Portis is a great back but as Joe Crisp said, Shenahans system pumps them out! I think he also has a keen eye for talent at that position and I have tons of respect for Portis, he's an excellent blitz picker-uper for a small guy!

I think it's a good trade but I don't know about a 2nd rounder. I like the idea of giving one of next year's picks away. Or maybe a later round pick this year and a 3rd next year.

What with Hasselbeck's name crossed out and Brunell in shaky writing underneath?

I agree with most that a straight up trade would be great, but the 2nd rounder is too much. If they swapped 2nd rounders with us, or even gave us their 3rd, I would be more ok with it. Either way, if the deal goes through, there is no doubt that Portis will be this year's Coles.
As for the thought of him being a product of Denver's great system and O-line, with our O-line now coached by Gibbs & Bugel, they will be no slouches either!

It's more Shenahans system than his line, in my opinion. He could turn Candidate into a 1K yard rusher.. Ok, that's a stretch, but he uses his RB great and has great schemes to let them use their own moves in the open field!

I can understand why the 'Skins aren't eager to give up a 2nd rounder in addition to Champ, but I think this is a deal they have to find a way to get done.

Yes Shanahan's system has pumped out it's share of 1000 yard rushers, but Portis is not a product of his system. The guy is a complete back, he has the quickness, speed, hands, agility and vision that every team dreams of.

Portis in Gibbs' offense would be downright scary. With an offense that would feature Coles, Brunell and Portis it would be downright explosive and perhaps the most talented trio Gibbs has ever had.

I agree...but so did Gibbs in his first run. That said, they could get someone cheaper, but if they are able to make an average-to-good back look great, just imagine them with a great one like Portis! (Hopefully we won't have to imagine)
Skins FO, please make it happen and try to at least get another pick back, even if it is a 3rd-4th rounder!
