i know they didn't believe in themselves, making it on 4th and 1 was just the situation to get some confidence and get back into the game. alas, Gibbs/Saunders played like they were already beaten and the team accepted it.
How about NOT making it on 4th down?

they had just marched down the field, they were just starting to feel good for the first time the entire game. these are competitive guys and they were just beginning to roll. if they tried and failed, at least they'd know Gibbs had some faith in them and felt they could make it. going for the FG took it completely out of their hands.

(btw losing it on 4th is technically a turnover)

Okay, and then what? They win 26-3 instead of 19-3?

Re: Joe Gibbs becoming like Mary Schottemhiemer

Just saw this stat from today's Post about Gibbs. Maybe Joe is becoming like Schottenheimer, from the standpoint of a .500 coach.

The Redskins will play the 40th game of the second Gibbs era on Sunday -- including the playoffs -- and stand at 19-20. Six of those wins came during the team's winning streak in December and January of last season, the only momentum the team has shown since this staff took over in 2004.

Wow, that is not that great. Hey, I still think he is a great coach, but I truly think he has become to concervative. I hope I am wrong.

The game must be passing Parcells by too, he's 17-19 over that same time period.

That wasn't the charge. It was simply a statement of fact -- that Gibbs is hovering at .500 forty games into his second stint as head coach. Almost two and a half years after his return, it looks like the Redskins are still an average team, getting average results, but with high-priced, above average talent at key positions. Which is exactly what the state of the organization was leading up to Gibbs' return. So let me ask you, didn't you expect a slightly different story at this point?

And maybe the game is passing Parcells by.

Re: Joe Gibbs becoming like Mary Schottemhiemer

Gibbs had a tough first season and a moderately sucessful second season which makes him around .500. There's nothing earth-shattering there. What happens the rest of this year, though, will have a huge impact on how the second Gibbs term is perceived. They need to at least equal last year's playoff berth to come close to matching expectations.

I'm sensing a lot of anti-Gibbs sentimant in here today. Blasphemy!

Re: Joe Gibbs becoming like Mary Schottemhiemer

marty and joe gibbs....i got three big differences...lets start with the three superbowl wins...i think marty has none. coaches coach and players play. the players need to take a good look in the mirror and start making the plays. thats all there is too it. Comparing gibbs to marty is like apples and oranges. I cant believe i even answered this joke ass thread.

It was a horrible coaching decision, plain and simple.

Re: Joe Gibbs becoming like Mary Schottemhiemer

Joe Gibbs definetly needs to take more risks. I keep hearing how he adjusts to the personell he has. Well if he is going to win, with ultra concervative Brunell, he better adjust and start taking chances.
