Brunell's knee

I think this may be one of the things that not a lot of people noticed. Ever since he injured his knee against New York, he just wasn't playing the same. Anyone else notice? I'm not blaming him or anything, just trying to make an observation.

Making that type of observation can be a dangerous thing, trust me I know.

I think he will, and should be, our starter next year. I agree that he played poorly the last few games, but I do attribute that to his age. If I am not mistaken, the knee that was injured was on his plant foot. I think he should be fine with rest.

Ummm...didn't everyone notice that? Even the TV guys mentioned it...in all fairness I think it was Troy Aikman who mentioned it - and though he was a Cowboy I think he is probably the best broadcaster working today - so maybe not EVERYONE talked about it. I still think he should be the starter next year because the Skins need a veteran at the helm to make the push for the Super Bowl. I think Brunell played really great most of the season and I really came to respect him a great deal as the year progressed.

Re: Brunell's knee

Yeah, it definitely seemed like Brunell was not 100 percent since the game against the Giants. He looked gimpy at times against Seattle.

As for next year, Brunell may come in as the starter, but the bottom line is that some time next season, we're going to have to suck it up and put in Jason Campbell (and rely on our defense again). And, it will be nice to have Brunell around to mentor Campbell. (This is all predicated on trading Ramsey during the offseason, of course.)

Re: Brunell's knee

I'm not too excited about Brunell returning as a starter next year. Most of the long balls to Moss this season, Santana had to slow down and wait. I don't think Brunell has enough arm left to thow a deep one on-stride. I say start Campbell. Having him sit and learn for one year is enough time. I don't think he will improve anymore by sitting on the bench and observe for another year.

I must say that Brunell has impressed me this year. I believe his arm strength is still there. Remember Dallas? I also believe his accuracy is still there. Finally, although fading, I think his mobility is still good.

While I really want to see us develop a young, rising star at quarterback (especially before Gibbs' leaves), Brunell has done a lot to justify remaining the starter. Can anyone name the last time we got rid of a solid quarterback in an attempt to upgrade?

Re: Brunell's knee

Ramsey should have started against Philadelphia, in my opinion. I said it then and stand by it. Brunell is a player, and a warrior and wants to be out there, but there comes a point when it just hurts himself and the team.

When healthy, I think he is easily the best QB we have on the team. Clearly since that NY game, he was playing hurt and it showed in his performance.

Re: Brunell's knee

brunell absolutely cannot play hurt, he goes down the tubes and he shouldn't have played the last 3 games, cause he was awful

if JC is the long term solution, we should see what he can do and at LEAST have an open competition during pre-season before settling for brunell next year (its not like he's been playing like peyton or elway).

I agree. I say let all three QB's battle it out for the starting spot, altho I'm pretty certain that given the time off to get healthy, Brunell would probaboly win that battle.

That's part of the problem though, he can't stay healthy and wears down late in the year, is this a player we want to invest the whole season to just to watch him break down when we need him most?

I am also tired of the Brunell injury excuses, he said he felt great, he was also playing like he did early on this season, and just like he did all of last season.

Somewhere here somebody has to take responsibilty for the ineptitude of the offense, it's either Brunell, or Gibbs, Has there been a worse QB performance over the coarse of 2 playoff games than Brunells?

Re: Brunell's knee

Brunell will be back next year, but we do have a history of qb's only having one good year for us and then they are no good anymore.
