Re: My August pick to win it all!

People find comfort in repeated and structured actions whether it's something as simple as donning their favorite jersey for a game or as complicated as performing mummification on a recently departed loved one. I think I'd draw the line at mummification as a pre-game ritual though....too time consuming.

It does not matter. It just would have made a great thread for you to post right after the SB.

Re: My August pick to win it all!

I'm not saying rituals or supersitions are a bad thing, I probably have a few hundred that I'd be afraid to break too. At half time of the philly game i felt like my t-shirt was bad luck so I changed it, is that why we won? I was just commenting on the fact that I don't think what people do/wear/say really have an impact on the game.

Darrell Green used to keep Tootsie Rolls in his cleats for every game. Towards the end of his career he was slower even though the Tootsie Rolls were still in his shoe. Does that mean that the candy stopped working or that they made no real difference in the first place?

I just have a problem believing that something like a shirt, or candy, or the fact that someone showed everyone the bet that he made a couple of months ago can affect the outcome of a game, that's all I was saying.

HOWEVER, if your rituals are working, for the love of God don't stop until we leave Detriot with Gibbs' fourth ring!!!!!

Re: My August pick to win it all!

by coincidence, that's part of the routine...my wife (bless her soul, damnit) washed them because she thought they were dirty, and i continue to have her do it since it seems to be working.

Really? But I was positive that, by not stepping on the cracks between the tiles on my kitchen floor on game day, I was somehow giving Washington the extra edge they needed to win...

Most logical people realize that doing something, like wearing the same shirt every week during the game has no effect on the outcome of a football game that they happen to be watching. My point is, when it comes to sports, most of this logic goes out the window, which you can see many examples of, on this thread.

Re: My August pick to win it all!

I haven't washed my Portis jersey since the preseason. And during the Bears and Seahawk games in September, those Sunday afternoons were rather warm, which means only one thing...

Lots of sweat!

Ticket was bought in August. Gimme a break ya'll.
Ain't no superstition in him showing his bet chit. I do believe that me wearing my Gary Clark jersey every Sunday helps as well as when I wear my brother's helmet!!! GO REDSKINS!!! GO MY BROTHER!!!

Re: My August pick to win it all!

When I got married in Vegas last year I really wanted to throw down $100 on the Skins to win it all, just for kicks. Now I'm kicking myself!

Don't kick yourself yet. If they happen to win the Superbowl, kick yourself then at the thought of how nice a quick 6K would've been. :screama:

Re: My August pick to win it all!

whatever Id pay 60 dollars and expect nothing in return right now for the skins to win the superbowl!!

Good luck to those of you that placed your bets early. Just goes to show you the parody in the league.
