i think he's learned a lot from gibbs, and he would already be in a good situation(hopefully)...as long as we have a good offensive coordinator i think they would be ok

Re: Greg Williams...Head Coach

I think Gregg Williams could be lured away by the Texans. They'll probably have the first pick in the draft aka Reggie Bush. They have a mediocre QB, but with Bush and Davis they would have a great running game. On top of that, they have Andre Johnson who is a great young reciever.

As for the D, they don't have great personnel, but he apparently feels like he can succeed without amazing talent.

I think the Texans could be the right situation for him.

However, I was thinking that if Sherman gets the axe he should consider the Packers if he can get Favre to stay for a year or two.

I'm hoping that he realizes that he will be Coach Gibbs successor and waits for his opportunity in Washington. Although that scenario seems like a far shot at the moment.

I'm not a big fan of Williams the coach. Maybe he'll turn into Bill Belicheck cause he sucked in Cleveland, but I'm not so sure he's a good head coach.

Re: Greg Williams...Head Coach

Like I know anything but my thoughst are....

Dan Snyder does not have a salary cap on coaches and GW is making more money then many Head Coaches in the NFL. He will stay here until Gibbs gives him the team rolling at full steam. Gibbs will be here for his full 5 years unless he get's a Super Bowl at which time he will move up to be his garanteed President of the Skins and part Owner and GW will be the Head Coach.

But not stepping into a team he has not had his hands on but a team he has drafted for, for 5 years leading up to taking the Head Coach spot.

It's a win/win to stay here and make fat coin, have stable home and be a Head Coach to a team he built.

Also the food is good around here and ya gotta love the traffic!
lol

peace

Here's Mort's take on GW:

Patti (DC): Do you think that Greg Williams will leave Washington to take a head coaching job? If so, where do you see him going?

Chris Mortensen: I don't think Greg Williams takes any job. He would probably jump for the Houston Texans job, but I think they'll hire an guy with a background on offense. I think Redskins owner Dan Snyder will do everything he can to keep Williams around.

Re: Greg Williams...Head Coach

I hope he stays and could justify it for him if he needed some help. He's had his say on guys he's drafted the past 2 years with our first overall picks... and he's able to build his team the way he wants it, and he's learned offense from the best in the business. Not only that but maybe gibbs would stay on in some capacity (just so he has some family time away from the facilities) to perhaps train him on how to be an effective head coach, and how to avoid the mistakes he apparently made in buffalo.

Gregg Williams does not hide the fact that he is a big time family man, with that being said, I think that he will do whatever is best for his family and I am not talking about money I am talking about how he said that his children and wife like it there in the D.C. area so I think that will weigh more than any head coach job...

very different:

1. williams did it before and lewis didn't

2. being a minority, you don't get as many real chances and lewis needed to take it. it was a no lose situation in cinci because they were the bungles. he really turned the team around around.

snyder is following the walsh model of the late great 49ners. gibbs is grooming williams and will stay on as emperor when he abducates the the throne as king.

I had read this thread completely yesterday, and started reading it all over again, when I realized the trap that Sandtrapjack was trying to get us stuck in!

Hah! Jokes on him! We swept his cowroids! Sandtrapjack needs to consider who is taking over for the tuna! I say they really need Joe Schmuckatelli, coach of Div. III, The Southern Campus of East Lower Upper NorthWestern U! 0-73 for the past 4 years!

It is needless worry about GW. He will do exactly as you or I. Simply put, he will do what is best for him!

Amen! and Amen!

Re: Greg Williams...Head Coach

My hope is that Gregg Williams stays one more year as Def. Coord. and then takes over as the Redskins Head Coach. Gibbs isn't staying forever, and I would have to believe that he would step down sooner if he knew he were giving the reigns to the right person.

Heck, now that I'm thinking about it, I can see Gibbs thinking that Williams is too valuable to the Redskins organization and stepping out of his way THIS off-season!

Either way, Williams is getting paid more than many HC's and should stay in Washington until Gibbs leaves. He is guarantee'd to be the next HC here!

You know, I definately wouldn't want Gibbs to step aside to let GW become the head coach. I do want him here and would love to see him become JG's successor, but after 1 year of a winning season (no telling where its going to lead...) I still would want Campbell learning under Gibbs and would love to see Gibbs on the sidelines for a couple of more years. He's brought something back to this team... and it means alot to me as I know it does to all of the other fans out there who feel like we're undergoing something special right now.

Re: Greg Williams...Head Coach

I love all the people who have said they are worried about Williams as a head coach. Seems no one gives an explanation to why. My guess would be that it is just because he didn't win in Buffalo but we should all know that just because you weren't successful in the win column the first time around doesn't mean you can't do the job well. Hell Belichek sucked in Clevland and look at the guy now. Whether a team wins or loses has a ton of variables some which are completely out of control of the coach. I have heard far more insider types mention that Williams' lack of success in Buffalo can be traced to some of these uncontrollable factors.
Plus you're ignoring the fact that he has gotten to work under two great coaches now in Fisher and Gibbs. He has to have learned something from these guys. Especially Gibbs. How could you work for the guy and not learn a little about being the head coach?
