Re: Here we go again: rumor of Gibbs walking away

I really think Gibbs is committed to winning here. In no way would i see him leaving after this season. Of course, its not as fun as it used to be w/ the media scrutiny and a little bit of unrealistic expectations. On the other hand, i'm not sure i see him staying the whole 5 years. If he has some success the end of this year and next he may decide to pass the reins over to GW (if he's still around). Just my opinion.

Whether the team is turned around or not, he's gone when the contract is complete.

While I agree this is a more likely event than Gibbs leaving early, I would not be surprised if he stayed past the 5 years if he felt the job was close but incomplete. He may stay on as Team President or some such capacity.

The man hates to lose and does not concede defeat easily (remember the Giants game? He went for the TD late rather than kick an easy meaningless field goal to avoid the shut out - I thought that spoke volumes about the man).

I think after his 5 years as coach, he'll still stay with the team in a front office capacity (probably President) indefinitely. Even it just becomes a figurehead role he'll still be a part of this franchise. He is a part-owner right?

I know Gibbs was a part owner of Atlanta before he came back. I didn't think he owned part of the Skins.

He had to sell his part of the Falcons to come back.

Can a coach be an owner of their team in the NFL?

Gibbs is here for 5, unless by some miracle we win the Super Bowl in the next two years. If we are on the right track (i.e., playoff bound, good cap numbers, relatively young players) , I don't see him staying any longer than his contract. He'll be 68 by then, so I'm not sure that he'll still want to put up with the stress.

Re: Here we go again: rumor of Gibbs walking away

Joe Gibbs is a very rare breed in the NFL these days, he feels strong loyalty to his team. He genuinely feels that he owes the fans every opportunity to take the team back to the super bowl. It is definitely not in his nature to walk out on an agreement, even in an age when it has become so common to terminate these non-guaranteed contracts before their completion.

Gibbs will honor the entire contract because he feels like he owes it to the fans for caring so much, owes it to Dan Snyder for giving him the opportunity, owes it to his players to stick with them, and owes it to himself to show he can be great again.

Joe Gibbs is one of the few good guys left in sports, that's why he'll be here the whole 5 years.

I think Gibbs will be here for the full 5 year deal, and maybe 2-3 after that.

Oh no this cant be true. I sure hope not. scarasim

The NASCAR team does not need him with them just winning a championship. I would think he would be ready for another championship lets hope the next one comes in football. He is not going to leave the team like this. He has too much respect for the organization and I am sure he relizes that if he left now the organization would be going back just like when all the other coaches left. He will leave us in better shape than he did the last time. Lets hope.

It is still great to see him back on the sidelines wearing the R hat.

I agree, no way he walks before his 5 years are up unless he wins a SB.
