Re: Marty Hurney Thread
The results will tell the story but this is not what i hoped for. It seems more like Rons fiefdom than creating a sustainable front office. If it works BEST THING EVER
but my spidey sense is tingling a bit. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |

It's not a smart organizational structure. Organizational structure exists because human nature is what it is. Mayhew and Hurney will no doubt start out with the best of intentions but if they begin to disagree, or the stress begins to accumulate, I don't like the setup.

Re: Marty Hurney Thread
This is a steaming pile of dogshit. Where does this team get off reinventing the wheel? Where in recent history has this team demonstrated they should think outside of the box? Learn how to operate in the box 1st.
This franchise can't handle simple arithmetic but have jumped straight to advanced calculus. Rivera being in charge the 1st year was likely needed, but there has been more than enough time to get a tried and true system in place. Is Hurney taking a Bruce Allen type position? Gonna lose Kyle Smith to bring in Hurney. Don't like that trade. Would much rather have: GM: Mayhew Assistant GM: Smith HC: Rivera Even if Mayhew still reported to Rivera, this would be preferred.

Re: Marty Hurney Thread
I guess since it's the offseason for us there's not much else to get fired up about, but I really don't get being upset about what's going on. Adding competent football people to the org is a bad thing? Ron doesn't know what he's doing apparently? Ok.

I like the Mayhew hire. To me this is basically trading out Smith for Hurney. I'd rather have a young accomplished talent evaluator than an old retread. Mayhew could handle things Hurney will do, or hire guy(s) under him to handle the smaller duties outside of scouting, which Smith could lead.

1) Ron is still in charge and I like him having full control, beats Bruce Allen any day, and Ron has demonstrated that he will do things Snyder may not love (cut Haskins) 2) He's hiring experienced football people to take stuff off his plate and help him with strategy and day to day Overall this is good. I don't like the structure, I think it could result in some problems. But overall, the problems that may come from that sure beat the problems that could come with continuing to go along with just Ron and Kyle and calling that an adequate front office.

I'd much rather be wrong and look stupid in a few years than be right and starting over again. I'll start slow roasting that crow now.

Re: Marty Hurney Thread
Keep in mind,
Hurney brought Newton to Carolina Mayhew brought Stafford to Detroit. That's probably a good sign that they understand about the importance of the qb position. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |

Re: Marty Hurney Thread
Stafford Stafford Stafford!!
Stafford drops back, he surveys the field, he fires long, McLaurin has step, he has it, 70 yard TD for McLaurin. This could be a legit thing for 4+ years (this is based on Stafford, I think he has at least 4 good years left). Extending McLaurin day 1 he can be extended, for the whole cookie jar isn't even a question. Get him a stud QB and let him eat. A Stafford/McLaurin/Thomas/McKissic and Gibson offense is looking real nice. Not even including adding a weapon from Curtis Samuel on up. If I'm over selling Stafford others are under selling him. If Detroit didn't have him they'd be a 4 or less win team annually.

Marty Hurney Thread
Stafford is the bomb, but will they trade for him? It’s going to take a RG3 monster-type trade to get him out of Detroit. Giving up two-three first round draft picks and a very good player like Allen of Payne is a huge price for Stafford. Worth it? I think so. But that’s the MINIMUM it will take to get him.
Except for the Cooper attempt, the WFT did not really go for any major players in FA. They went for medium players on 1-year cheap contracts. Some worked out and some did not. It was an OUTSTANDIBG strategy. Now they have to bid and go for the ones who worked out, like Thomas. I even think it’s POSSIBLE that Rivera just bid up Cooper, just so Dallas would overpay for him. It worked. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I refuse to believe it will take two-three first round draft picks and a very good player like Allen of Payne to get Stafford. If that is the case, it's a hard pass for me.

Re: Marty Hurney Thread
As much as I'd love to have him, definitely agree. Our 1st and one of our 3rds would be the max imo. Hopefully you can hold out where it would only take the 1st. Then build out the roster with all the other picks.
