Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
How much does Smith cost us next season as a player compared to cutting him? Can't help wondering if on balance keeping him another season is really that expensive considering the vet leadership he brings. Kicking him to the kerb this offseason then bringing in another vet doesn't make sense to me if he can go one more year (or 2?). I know Rivera's said he wants to keep him anyway and I'd be surprised if he wants to retire now, so just hypothesising.

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
I don't know how reliable it is, but according to Spotrac, he costs 24.4 mil next year. If they cut him after June 1st, he would cost 5.4 mil against the cap in 2021 and 2022.
Barring injury, Haskins shocking the world and beating him out (if he's still here), or a rookie beating him out, my guess is A Smith will be the starter next year. |

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
I'm fine with Smith coming back as the starter next year, but beyond that no. In the 1% chance Ron is encouraged by Haskins' attitude (and isn't just giving him lip service so we can drive his price up for the offseason) maybe another year of tutelage under Smith would help, if not I expect Ron to grab someone to develop under Smith for next year. Kyle Allen is a nice kid but I haven't seen anything that makes me think he's our long term future.

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
I like winning. When Alex plays, we win more than we lose. Let's bring him back in 2021, and build the rest of the team.
We add 2 more guys on D, and the group is elite.

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
More winning. We don't need to force a QB pick. We can get an elite CB, S, LB, or LT.
If we keep winning, probably won't even have the option to get one of the big 4 anyways. Will be interesting to see how far Trask moves up the team's board.

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
Is there a team that is tougher than this WFT? Between Alex Smith's comeback, and Ron's cancer battle - they both are just exuding toughness and resiliency throughout this team.

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
What WFT is seeing now with AS is a glimpse of what could have been had he not been injured.

Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)
He's not the sexy 350 yards and 3 tds a game QB but the dude never gets us into big trouble, he's just a smart checkdown QB and there is nothing wrong with that if you have a great defense
