Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
So does Trent have 2 years left on his contract? Then trade him, you cannot count on him otherwise. A high pick and a mid-round pick would be fair.

Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Quote:
He has one year left on his contract. He’s not going to bring two draft picks in a trade. Bruce Allen totally mismanaged that trade possibility last year (surprised?) when we might have received a first and another high pick with the Texans. Right now we would get a second round pick, period. If you resign TW now, it would most likely be a 3 year contract with lots of guaranteed money, which is what he wants. He probably plays for us for two years at a good to very good level. He’s had a year to recover from prior injuries so he should be in great shape for his age. If he’s NOT in great shape, he will not be resigned but traded. Trent was a team captain. He was the best player on this dysfunctional team for many years. He was well liked by his teammates and coaches. Let’s forget last year and just bring him back to solidify this OL. The team will draft at least one OT in the draft and multiple picks in UDFA. If the team gets a backup OL player they’ll be happy. If they get a starter, they’ll be very happy. But remember unless the team can resign some players the OL will be a hollow disaster. We’ll need a OG to replace Flowers, Scherff; and an OT to replace Trent/Penn; the Center position is weak; Moses had a terrible year in terms of play and he was a plague with penalties. All we have on the plus side is Martin. Christian is a bust. How is Haskins going to grow with a crappy OL? Spend the money to resign Trent, as long as he is truly healthy; spend the big bucks to resign Scherff; spend the average money for Flowers; release Penn and Christian and Moses. Draft an OT in the fourth or fifth round, bring in 3-4 OT in UDFA and hope one is a starters and one a project or backup. Move Martin into C or to replace Moses. Pick up one good OL FA to replace the C or Moses. This OL is two years from being settled with decent backups. In the 2021 draft I think the team will need to draft high for the OL. Trent is worth the money. Forget this last year, both sides had points. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

RK, easy decision. You guys draft Chase Young at #2, it makes RK and that veteran contract expendable. |

Kerrigan isn't going to command that much money and with the D-Line revamped it will take him out of offenses scopes and his numbers will improve. His numbers have dropped but he is still a valuable player and on field leader.

But an expensive one. If he agrees to a rework of his contract I think he definitely stays, but if not, adios. If he is gone by the draft, no way we don't take CY.

So I'm guessing all of that depends on if you wanna bring him back and extend him (in which case it doesn't matter that much), or if you want to trade him (which would only make sense if you did have rights for 2 more seasons). Does anybody have more info on that matter ?

Redskins don't intend to trade TW per Rapoport. No real news here but it does feel like we could come to a conclusion of this story.

1) Rappaport says the previous regime was intent on trading Trent. That is clearly bull crap. They were intent on keeping him and not paying him. 2) This is exactly what the skins would say if they wanted to trade Trent. Make it seem like we want to keep him to increase leverage in a trade 3) It says nothing of Trent's intentions. Trent did not hold out just because of Bruce Allen and the medical staff. He made the decision before any of that came up when he wanted more money and Bruce said no. Unless the team is willing to give Trent an extension with guaranteed money, there is no reason to think Trent would suddenly want to come and play under his current deal 4) And following the previous point - this is exactly what the team would leak publicly if they wanted to make it clear to Trent they weren't moving him, so he better show up and play. Basically, this report demonstrates Rappaport doesn't know what he's talking about and is meaningless until we have signs that Trent wants to be here.

Apparently Rivera hasn't really talked to Trent yet , and I guess anything we hear before that (unless it comes directly from Trent) is kinda irrelevant...

This will not drag on. It will be cleaned up by training camp. If he doesn't want to be with the Skins, Ron will move him. It may be for a ham sandwich.

Cleaned up by training camp? There is no way it takes that long, a decision by the draft must be made. If he leaves they need a 2020 draft pick.

Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Guys, Trent has one year left in his contract. He qualified last season for a year on his contract even though he wasn’t paid.
The Redskins, RR and even Gibbs are saying Trent will come back. This is NOT A mixed message. This is NOT a secret plot to get more for him in a trade. NOTHING will get us more than a second rounder - so he’s worth far more to the team then a trade for a draft pick. Bruce Allen decided to punish Trent for daring to ask for a trade. Other elite players in the NFL asked for the same thing ( to be traded) AND WERE TRADED. But Bruce thought he could force TW to play by penalizing his pay. AS USUAL, Allen totally mismanaged everything. He enraged Trent enough that he sacrificed $12 mill. Trent could have been traded to the Texans for AT LEAST a first rounder AND more. But Bruce decided to punish the best player on the team and a leader and Captain of the team. Bruce Allen was a complete tool and probably the worst GM in the NFL. Anyway, the ongoing courtship will move forward rapidly. RR has made the public pronouncements of support for Trent and that he.’s part of the team. Rr wants him back (as long as he is healthy). They’ve just talked to the agent, seeing where Trent is at. They probably also pledged to the agent to get Trent the guaranteed money he wants. Then they’ll talk about the details - 3-5 year contract. The next part is up to Trent. He may be waiting to see what other teams have to offer. The Redskins need Trent more than he needs the team. But this love-in support now hopefully makes him forget Bruce Allen and the medical crew. BL - everything is going smoothly and I give it an 80% chance he will return to the Redskins. The only issues are if there is something wrong medically (I doubt it) or in the unlikely scenario where Trent continues to insist on a trade. If that happens, he will be traded and we.’ll use the 2nd rounder of the best TE/WR/ OT left in the draft. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
