Re: Redskins Offseason Thread

I'm curious to see how this goes, I love the fact that Redskins are searching for players at different places. Of course, I know some teams do this as well but still this would be good story if it works out for Jordan and Redskins.

I heard about this kid on SiriusNFL, I wish he would come in as NT, not a OT. It seems like a simpler transition to me, and I could see him just engulfing NFL centers and pushing them straight back.

I'm not sure either of the 2 positions would be easier to transition to. Rugby is a very different sport, especially 13 players rugby where there is no ruck, no maul, and scrums are less contested than in 15 players rugby. So nothing close to the trench battle that is an NFL OLine facing an NFL DLine.

So a part from his body, athleticism and ability to take and give big hits, Jordan is pretty much starting from scratch.

I don't know enough about Rugby (JR should chime in), but a true NT who mainly needs to learn the snap, and eating up space seems a simpler transition then learning techniques of blocking the best pass rushers in the league. That said, I would not mind having him learn under Callahan if that was the way they went. He is definitely a project not a short term solution.

Then I see what you mean.
But maybe with his athleticism and speed (relatively to his size and weight) he and the people advising him thought it would be a waste to stick him to pushing people back.
We'll see, anyway we're not the only team giving a look so he may end up on somebody else's practice squad...

I was wondering same thing. Maybe Redskins feel he is too tall to play NT? NTs need to have good leverage to hold its position on the line, or just that they feel he could develop into good tackle.

You are probably right, that would be a tall NT.

You nailed it. NT's are squatty. You need to stay low or you can't anchor against the run.

It's not a bad thing to be tall at NT, 6'3" can work as long as your center of gravity is still low. But 6'8" is just too darn tall - centers and guards will get under you and lift you out of the play.

At OT, arm length is a huge advantage to keep pass rushers at bay. That's definitely the right spot for his body type. He'll make Moses look like

Maybe he can learn from Trent for a couple years and then take his spot? It's possible I suppose, although Trent is still young for a OT so we are probably good for 5 years

Re: Redskins Offseason Thread

Thinking of him as a replacement for Trent would be fairly insane. Again, you're an idiot.

The play is to just look for him to replace Nsekhe, who will get a shot at a starting job next year in free agency.

I really don't think expectations should be this high on him.
Coming from a different sport he'd be lucky to make it to a 53 men roster year 1.
