me and the wife, and family, going to new orleans to watch the skins. having never been there would appreciate any help on what to do, see, etc. thanks in advance

If u have kids going I wouldn't recommend Bourbon/French QTR. If no kids, go have fun lol. It's a party city, stay away from certain areas at night especially.

I lived there for a few months back in the 90's. The first night there I went to Cafe Du Monde that sits on the bend of the Mississippi, and just enjoyed coffee and beignets. It was extremely enjoyable, especially in a city known more for it's parties then it's chill factor.

Swamp tours, plantation tours, history tours, ghost tours, plenty of touristy stuff that’s fun and will keep you busy. Bourbon St isn’t bad during the day, next St over is Royal and it’s much nicer, more family friendly.

French quarter is fun and when you get off Bourbon street, there are some really cool architecture, shops, book stores etc. But its easy to spend your entire time there. But there are some other really cool places. If the Preservation hall band has something going on, grab tickets and enjoy. There is also a redskins bar in the french quarter, google it. youll be standing but its all skins fans.

Treme/9th ward -- Not a place you walk around but (during the day) take a short taxi from the FQ to Willie Maes -- best fried chicken on the planet. Amazing. Legendary. Dookie Chase is also right around the corner but its only open 1 sunday a month or something. Ive never eaten at Dookie Chase.
Willie Mae’s Restaurant – New Orleans

Uptown/Carrolton Ave - hop on the street car from the FQ going to uptown. Cheap and awesome views. Travels right down the middle of historic St Charles Avenue and the beautiful mansions in the Garden District. I lived at 1325 st charles for a bit. At the end of the line, there are a couple places. Oak Street has Jacques Imos which was featured on Bourdain and locals love. We actually meet the first guy to get a DUI for airplane in Louisianna. Then visited his plantation where 7 years a slave and other movies were filmed.

right next to Jacques Imos is the Maple Leaf, a small music joint where the rebirth Brass Band plays. they start at like midnight, authentic new orleans experience.

During breaks, sometimes kids will come up nwith their bike and a grill hooked to the back and grill oysters with this garlic butter sauce, fucking awesome. soo good. smoek a joint, eat some oysters. younger crowd.

Ye Olde College inn - farther up carrolton, past where street car goes. but is a really good old school new orleans restaurant. older crowd.

Camellia's grill on carrolltown - good no frills breakfast spot. old school. right on carrollton. so if you dont want to take the street car to do the late night jacque imos and maple leaf, taking the street car up to camillias in the AM is a good bet. street car also goes right by the Audobon park which has nice paths, flowers, trees etc. right across the street from tulane.

Commanders palace - you need to make reservations about 6 months in advance but best brunch ever. in the garden district.

Frenchmen street - must go to. better than FQ. 3 muses has really good food. Spotted Cat is legendary music bar. famous musicians might stop by and play the piano. Frenchmen street is awesome, heard it has become touristy over the past 10 years but its a must experience. this is for the over 30 crowd who still likes to party.
