The Jay Gruden thread.
I mean, it makes sense to talk about Grudens fate as is relates to KC, but just not contract talk I think.
I'll say this, a lot of great coaches share their fate with a great QB, but certainly not all. Cousins has this year to prove it to JG that he is that guy for him. If he does, I think JG moves mountains to keep him, if not, I think JG lets him walk and starts over with a draft pick or maybe a stopgap until a draft pick. I do think Gruden survives KC if he leaves after this year. My opinion in part comes from what Jon Gruden was saying about Cousins before and during the game. Essentially that he is good but not great ... yet. That he CAN be great, but will he? I guarantee that the two have talked about the most important player on the team, and I'm sure Jon is well aware of his feelings about him. Which goes back to why Jay is the man and the best HC we've had in decades. He's a good talent evaluator and you either perform or you don't play for him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: The Jay Gruden thread.
Put it this way, if Jay were on the job market this year, having accomplished what he has to date, would other teams hire him? Would you want the Redskins to, if their job were open?
For me the answer to both is a big yes.

I actually like jay but he needs to learn when and when not to call timeouts.

Maybe he should have let the clock run down to 45 or 30 before he used the first.

Re: The Jay Gruden thread.
Back to back winning seasons. Nothing else needs to be said. That shit happens about as often as a solar eclipse.
And he's a young HC, he'll get better. Him and Kirk for 5 more years, I'm on board. I'm officially on the Kirk train too.

Re: The Jay Gruden thread.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Right now Jay is a pretty good coach. If he can consistently field good defenses and Big Cuz stays then he can become a great coach.

Re: The Jay Gruden thread.
I am kind of tired of the back to back winning seasons line. Yes 8-7-1 is a winning season. Yes we look like a quality team. But there are several losses which can be pinned on Gruden, his 0-4 opening game record for one group, and he is still a terrible end of half/end of game manager.
I am on board with keeping him and KC, but I hope he continues to grow as a coach, especially in offseason prep and clock management areas. Learning to go for the throat wouldn't be a bad thing either |

Re: The Jay Gruden thread.
Is there a place I can find stats on how often we get scored on within the last two minutes of a half?
Death, taxes and the Skins giving up points right before the half/end of the game.

Re: The Jay Gruden thread.
I feel like that is the NFL in general. Not sure if O coordinators get more aggressive in those time frames then at other times.
