My worst nightmare has been realized…

I bought my house 7 years ago and it had an unfinished basement, one I could finish and make my ultimate Redskin room, which I did as many of you have seen. It was six years ago that I completed it and I never had a drop of water leak in until last night. Here on Long Island we had 8 straight days of heavy rain and last evening the foundation couldn’t hold anymore and it filled my Redskin room with 6 inches of water. Surveying the damage this morning it looks as if I need to pull all the rugs up and tear down half the walls because of mildew spores that are likely to form. I doubt it is covered under my house insurance. I called the “Emergency” number which is supposed to be 24/7 and I get answering machine that says the office hours are Monday through Friday. I can’t imagine how much this is going to cost and how much more work it is going to be. I’m so fucking pissed you have no idea.

Man that sucks but remember you're a Redskins Fan and we never give up. We tear stuff up, we rip down walls, we throw stuff, we clean up and we rebuild stronger, better!

You built it during the lossing years and now is the time for a Championship Summo Skins Room!!!!

Hang in there my friend and let us know if we can help.

peace and prayers

summo you will have your "man cave" as i think you called it, up in no time, just stick with it. lets all hope that it is covered under insurance and if not you can rebuild it, you did it before and can do it again. Hail to the redskins my man

Re: My worst nightmare has been realized…

up here (or is it down?) we had friends get a couple inches... rugs ruined, but the walls were cement, so a shop vac took care of most of the problem. We were okay cause we're on a hill and don't have a buried basement, but I've seen firsthand how much it can suck

Re: My worst nightmare has been realized…

Thanks for the kind words guys. I have been busting my ass down there this whole week and I pretty much have everything dried up. I rented a couple of industrial heaters, bought a couple of new dehumidifiers and had a company come in and spray the entire basement with a chemical that will prevent any mildew from growing. I'm putting down tiles on the floor so if this happens again (God forbid) I won't lose another $2,000 worth of rugs. And no the stuff was not covered under my insurance. I was told I couldn’t get flood insurance where I live because I'm too close to the water. I hope to have the Redskins end of my basement back together again by this coming weekend!! –Summo

Summo, all the best with the basement.

Dump your insurance for someone who's not just taking your money.

Check with FEMA. They don't have a lot going on right now. (Tongue firmly planted in cheek)

Insurance does not cover rising water which they have told you but you can purchase flood insurance. It does not have any bearing on how close you are to the water. If you PM me I can look up what flood zone your home is located .If you have a mortgage and were not required to carry flood insurance you are probably in a preferred flood zone. The rates would run from 250 to 310 a year. Try coating your walls with dry lock which does a real good job of sealing the blocks.

Re: My worst nightmare has been realized…

I think I started this thread last year.

My basement (where my office and my kids' playroom is) flooded not once but twice last year. We had to scratch and claw for every cent we lost down there, and were still out thousands, not to mention old photos and books that can't be replaced. Hang in there Summo - we pulled through and so will you.
