Good to hear this...

John Keim ‏@john_keim 8m
Talked to Gruden's agent. Two things mattered most: Familiarity with staff. And RG3 potential.

Shanny wanted Bulger but DS wanted McNabb who was a bigger more marketable name. Again, you know the rest.

It seems like DS's best PR move has been to get the public to think he's defered to the experts. He hasnt.
Citing the WP for proof of DS being a bad owner is not really very useful. I am sure that, like every other owner in the league, he has pushed his ideas, but it is clear from Gibbs to Shanahan and now Allen, that he has been reducing the amount of hands on meddling that he has been doing. The Washington Post, or at least some of its writers, will never acknowledge DS doing anything other than being a petulant owner, but that doesn't seem to jive with most of the facts that are out there now.

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins

I really have to question this move.

We have the 9th ranked offense and the 18th ranked defense that gave up 30 pnts/game, so we get rid of our offensive coaches for someone who had a WORSE ranked offense than ours and retain the DC?

I will say that Cincy averaged more points than us, so that is good. I am not totally down on Gruden but it is clear to me that he must have been our #1 choice all along. The only 3 coaches they don't fire are the ones that have connections to Gruden? The ONLY reason they kept Haslett is to help lure Gruden and that is some backwards ass thinking to me.

Don't try to sell me on the Shanny interfered with Haslett's defense theory. He could have walked away anytime the last 4 years if that was the case.

As for him not having the right players, we spent multiple high picks on Defense and brought in the defensive FAs we could afford. I'm sure as DC he had input on these players. My point is if it was personnel problem then Haslett and the salary cap penalty had as much to do with it as Shanny.

Why not go get some better guys who can play with the system we have?
Yeah, I hear you, but what I'd really like to see is them build a team with best talent availble in draft and FA, and based on the personnel they have come next season (and of course the game situation) mix up the formations to take full advantage of the talent and depth they have availble.

Cofield and Jarvis Jenkins would be great 4-3 tackles.
If we're only going to move one of Ryan or Brian to DE, you picked the right one. Kerrigan seems to have a knack for batting balls and getting INTs around or behind the line of scrimmage from the LB position. Orakpo has one great talent, pass rushing.

Same could be said for him getting this job in the first place. I guess it wasnt hos fault he sucked everywhere he ever went. Im happy about Gruden but i hope Haz is on a damn short leash.

Me too, we reached out and got alot of input and reached a decision quick. So much for this is toxic job nobody wanted. Figured Tampa and Houston, the best jobs first, would go and then us. Detroit, Minny, and Cleveland, the worst jobs, still available.

I agree. The hiring process started so well and then ran into the ditch.

But if luck is on our side and Gruden turns out to be the right man, the process won't matter...or so says the optimist in me.

Nice Fleetwood Mac sig btw.

The same way Andy Reid, Chip Kelly, and Bill O'Brien were hired. So what's so terrible about this?

only time will tell if it will work out. just like any hire if works the way the did is brilliant and if it fails it was the same old redskins. BTW Bobby Bethard hired Joe Gibbs that way, he told him he had the job and just interviewed other guys for show.

What should I be thinking? Enlighten me with your positivism.

14 years of ownership.
8 head coaches.
2 playoff win.
0 super bowls.
failure, price of admission.

Yeah, I said on the locked thread that I'd be happy if this JG has half the success of the last JG.

Nice spot on the sig btw.
