Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Why would we want to give up any more picks for a wide rec. who has off the field issues and wants a ton of money. Haven't we learned our lesson from the past of doing business like this. We can find a WR in next seasons draft with a late or undrafted free agent. Remember we still have Kelly on IR. Lets be patient and build through the draft.

You mention throwing draft picks away on a WR who has proven himself to be able to play in the NFL as being crazy but you'd rather take your 50/50 chance on a draft pick? Honestly the second scenario sound crazy. I'm all about building through the draft like the Patriots did yrs ago, and having a healthy young team, but the team needs it's vets also in order to pass on skills. How much longer will Galloway and Moss be here? I also don't want to waist another draft pick on a player who can't make the jump like Thomas and Kelly. The good news is I think this coaching staff is better at evaluating talent and determining if it will work in the scheme of things vs. past coaching staffs so if picking a WR up in the draft is the solution then I'll accept it, if picking up VJ is their answer I'll accept that as well. But I think we all can agree on a couple of things... Thomas and Kelly are not getting it done and we need a WR. |

Well that's great. Now I'm almost forced to play R. Williams in Madden.

So glad we didn't pursue this guy. We're not in a position to give away more picks. Gotta build in the trenches first.

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
You know we might be able to get him for free after this season anyways. Maybe that's why Shanny didn't think twice about not sending picks for him, because he could be had if he ends up a free agent and they don't franchise him next season.

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Well, looks like the deadline is this coming Tuesday.
I thought of something earlier and wonder what you guys think of this...? Obviously A.J. Smith wants way more than what the redskins or any team want to pay for Jackson. I believe he wants at LEAST a 2nd rounder and the highest anyone will offer is a 3rd and lower... There seems to be a lot of interest and talk about teams picking up Shawne Merriman immediately when he's released. (I'm seeing it all over the boards) The deal is...I believe merriman is on the PUP list and will need to be released as soon as he is healthy again. (Their required to do so apparently) So here's my thought...? Apparently we are interested in Merriman too, according to Clayton..(yes,I know it's Clayton, but still) Plus,he would be a very nice addition to the 3-4 defense we want to run. We are also interested in Jackson, but don't want to give a high pick or what A.J. Smith is wanting.. So I'm wondering...What if we offered a 2nd round pick for Jackson and Merriman? A.J. would get the pick he wants...(a 2nd rounder) We would not have to get in any bidding war for the services of Shawne merriman in a trade(same contract he's under) But the chargers wouldn't get anything for Merriman anyways, since they MUST release him anyways as soon as he is healthy...No draft picks there for them doing that. (THEY must release him immediately) So they get the 2nd rounder they would never had gotten without throwing in merriman...right? and we don't have to get in any major contract bidding war for his services from all the teams in need of a LB. Right? Think about it...just because jackson will be a free agent next season, does not mean we will get him because he's a free agent. Other teams will be in the fold then and bruce isn't going to get in a bidding war with him then either.. But trading for VJ now,we can negotiate with him throughout the season and come to an agreement, but with him ON THE TEAM. (and not against 31 NFL teams) I guess the question is...can a player be traded while on the PUP/IR list? If so...could we trade for Merriman before he is healthy and they are required to release him... We trade for LB Shawne Merriman and WR Vincent Jackson and give the chargers our 2nd round pick. Then we put Shawn Merriman on the inactive list, till he is healthy and ready to play... We release Roydell Williams and someone else... Your thoughts..?

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Ace, the only problem I see with your idea is that Merriman is no longer a very good player. You can put it down to getting off the steroids or his multiple knee injuries but he hasn't been "lights out" for a number of years now. I don't think he would be a good addition to our defense. I also think V jackson is a poor addition to our locker room.

My thought on this was...Jackson is most likely to many to be worth a 2nd rounder...alone. I mean,Brandon Marshall cost two 2nd rounders...What was Boldin traded for..a 2nd? VJ is a definate #1 WR that we need. So even if Merriman is no longer any good,it's not like we over paid for a player of VJ's ability... We would be basically getting Merriman for nothing...Without a bidding war once he's a free agent and with the possibility that a change of scenery and him hitting previous form...A huge steal in a trade. 2 multiple pro bowl caliber players at the cost of a 2nd round pick.

Agreed with Jontrem; I would rather not do business at all with AJ Smith if at all possible lol.

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
I don't know what the rules are regarding IR'd players and trading them. Merriman is on IR was some minor injury label.
