Re: Devin Thomas' inconsistency continues
Still don't know why he was cut, especially with this competition kick that the Shanahan's were on.

Re: Devin Thomas' inconsistency continues
So how do our receivers rank in terms of pure speed? Is Moss the fastest? It never seemed to me like any one on our team had breakaway speed, so I just wondered where all our receivers stack up, both on the team, and against other receivers in the league.

Re: Devin Thomas' inconsistency continues
I'd say Moss is still the fastest WR, followed by Banks (assuming he makes the team), Galloway (still think he has some speed left) T. Austin, Thomas, and Kelly. That should rank in the top 15, assuming we keep 6 WRs (doubt it). I'd bet to think we have the fastest WR's overall in the NFC East team, but speed alone almost never wins games.

Re: Devin Thomas' inconsistency continues
He's a 7th rounder from a former staff that doesn't play special teams. Not sure there's much else to say.

Re: Devin Thomas' inconsistency continues
TheJBexperience; I with you. In past yrs I would have said no to ever signing T.O. Although his Philli tantrum was not 10 yrs ago, I do feel he's somewhat removed from that incident but everyone loves to bring it up like he's a cancer. He is the best WR on the market at this point to which we would not have to trade or throw draft picks at to get. At this point I too would be thinking about bringing him in cause he would need time to learn the scheme and play calls.
mlmpetert; I agree with you also there's only so much you can do when injured especially with a hammy. Which brings me back to why the "F" do are players seem to always get hammies? Moss is our notorious and his seems to re-occure every yr. I hope thats not the case for Thomas. I Moss is the Hammy/Groin pull player of the team. Warpaint; I some how doubt Kelly steps up also. I would put more money on his knees swelling again this yr and he not being able to practice .... again vs. the light switch all of a sudden switching on. You guys are funny.... excuses, excuses, excuses.... their like A-holes and everyone has one. How about we stop making up the excuses for Thomas and Kelly at this point and admit they might not be what we expected them to be. |

Re: Devin Thomas' inconsistency continues
Because we are not hearing how Moss has been inconsistant, or Armstrong, or Banks, or even Austin. Maybe the spot light is simply on Thomas and Kelly only but I doubt it when I keep hearing about Armstrong running good routes and catching passes all day.

Re: Devin Thomas' inconsistency continues
It's got nothing to do with excuses, these are WRs entering their 3rd seasons. It typically takes 2-3 seasons for WRs to fully blossom. How about we try to have a little patience considering we're not even into August yet?

Re: Devin Thomas' inconsistency continues
I'm guessing the coaching staff will figure it out but I doubt the team cuts 2 second round WR's they threw a lot of money at. Maybe they will. At least your blind faith is centered on the coaching staff being able to get it right vs. the players being able to all of a sudden become super stars.

Re: Devin Thomas' inconsistency continues
I am. I'm not throwing them out with the bath water just yet. I'm just tired of the "Oh don't worry they will be our #1 and #2", "You'll see they are gunna step up any day now", "this is their 3rd yr and that means they are gunna bust out" mentality. All I'm hoping for is that the coaching staff has made contingiency plans for if Thomas and Kelly don't step up, and Galloway and Wade are not my ideas of contingiency plans. I truly hope everyone is at some point telling me "I told you so."

Re: Devin Thomas' inconsistency continues
Oh and just because the writer says he's an "outsider" doesn't mean he's oblivious to whats going on. All it might mean is he has not been down to the park to see for himself. He's most likely getting his information form someone else who is down at the park watching everyday whats going on. At this point we don't even know if it's possibly a coach of some type feeding him inside info.
But... lets take the "I'm an outsider" statement and call him an idiot for writing a story and not having any clue about what he's talking about. |

Personally I'm tired of folks tossing players to the curb prematurely. If some people had their way players would never get the chance to blossom. And we would have a team full of guys that shine in the preseason playing against 4th and 5th string players. This is going to be a very telling year for both guys. Make or break. |

Re: Devin Thomas' inconsistency continues
I agree with you here, but the real question is how patient will Shanny be? Everything Shanny has done so far points to a "win now" expectation. We are not in a rebuilding process, so I really believe if he doesnt see the results preseason, he is not going to hesitate to play vets or bring someone else in. I stated on another thread I really would not be surprised to see one of the two not make the team. Receiver position on this team IMO has been a weakness for awhile, hopefully we see a breakout from one of the two this year, HTTR.

Re: Devin Thomas' inconsistency continues
Isn't it a little too early for threads like this???? As much as I'm ready to turn the page on Kelly and Thomas it's June. Let's see how they do in training camp and pre season when the pads are on. But let's be honest. 40 catches in two years for Thomas and Kelly has even less. That is simply pathetic. IMO neither of these guys are NFL material and that's why they signed Gage and 50 year old Galloway. The offense is still going to struggle cause we don't have the talent on the outside.
