Re: Rocky trade is a possibility

Come on now Rocky is not even an average NFL LB. I would trade him ,but what are we going to get for him, a 5th rounder? I can see getting a 4th rounder at best for Rocky. He isn't all that bad, but it is a stretch to even call him average still.

Simple trade for a lower round pick. WE can get a LB that is learned in the 3-4 scheme.

Rocky is mediocre and the second he signs an extended contract he will blow his knee out for the third time. Get that guy outta here. I would be happy with a sixth rounder.

The linebacker position in the NFL is quite simply the easiest hole to fill on any NFL roster.

I'd like to work out a deal with the Raiders for Kirk Morrison and Thomas Howard. Apparently both are on the trading block.

If it's really easy to fill -- I wish they would have gotten some good linebackers then. Fletcher has been it for us. We've been short good linebackers for a while, and have used defensive ends to fill it. I guess it's different now with the 3-4 since orakpo, etc. can stay there & sometimes rush the QB.

To be honest, I don't really get the point of trading anyone but Campbell. The rest of them are starters on the team, and we're not gonna get value for them. I just dont see the point in trading Landry or McIntosh for a 4th or 5th round pick that maybe will make the roster.

Campbell also has the most trade value with the least value to us. The only one who might have more trade value is Landry, and any team looking for Landry is probably searching for a "buy low" option anyway.

Bingo. Hit the nail on the head. Where are all these jr. trade gurus coming from.
They want to trade half the roster to get draft picks. What are draft picks? They are college students. Get real boys.
Rocky M is NOT an all pro but he is a good linebacker. Not great. Good. Not gonna get that with a 4th or 5th round pick. Just a special teams player.

Albert is the best defensive tackle in the universe and if he comes into camp motivated to show everybody that they are wrong, then look out.

Landy is a solid strong safety. Its not his fault that an idiot played him out of position all last year. Heck, if you played Santana Moss at linebacker, I guess after 1 game you would want to cut him. Not there fault we had idiots for coaches last year. Orakpo covering receivers...Landry covering instead of tackling...and Fred Davis sitting on the bench for the first half of the year instead of using 2 tight end formations. Not there fault we had idiot coaches.

If they'd take Rocky in return, that is a good idea. I always wanted us to have Thomas Howard anyway.

Landry has the speed to cover- he's one of the fastest safties in football. He just sucks in coverage. And when he has a chance to tackle he goes for the blow up hit and often wiffs, rather than just making a sure wrap up. He drives me nuts. Probably my least favorite player on the team. But he has so much raw talent, he could be very good. Just needs some discipline and coaching.

That said, I'd probably rather just trade Campbell and hang on to the rest of the guys (regardless of how much I dislike LL, AH, and Rogers). Trading any of those three would be a big net loss on our part based on what it took to get them here. We need to stockpile some players- particularly LBs and offensive lineman, but I'd rather go about getting extra multiple draft picks by leveraging that 4th overall pick.

Just to throw it out there- I feel like nobody has said a peep about Cooley being traded for a while. I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded on draft day (possibly Friday if we can get a 2nd rounder for him).

This. The only counterargument I could see is if one of those guys is a cancer on the roster. Personally I think Landry could be/become that guy. As far as the rest are concerned trading starters away for nothing (realistically) just means the defense especially gets that much worse.

...I tend to think the approach we're seeing/hearing about right now from Shanny/Haslett/Allen is hubris to the most extreme. I highly, highly doubt it goes the way they expect it will.

Re: Rocky trade is a possibility

Rocky is viable trade bait. Thing is we need picks, meaning more lbs to draft. WE are not deep at LB for the 3-4, as I think everyone here agrees with this. Rocky is average at the very best. Yeah, you could only get say a 3rd-5th rounder for him or maybe a straight up trade with a 3-4 LB if we are lucky. Fact is we are going to draft a LB anyway, might as well add another one via trade. We are very thin in most areas of our roster, not to mention overall talent. Taking a 4th round LB for Rocky isn't that bad of a deal.

Of course Landry has the speed to cover...however how many fast as lightening receivers have we seen come and go because they can't catch. Speed is great but it is only one small part otherwise track stars would be making the NFL by the dozens. If Landry would rather hit than cover, then why didn't our idiot coaches simply allow him to hit people coming out of the backfield instead of being 30 yards downfield. I guess I just answered my own question: because they were idiots and thats why Blache is retired and Zorn is working at Taco Bell or whatever.

Re: Rocky trade is a possibility

Rocky had a great year last year, this is the 2nd year after his knee operation meaning he'll even have a better year this year. A 5th rounder is an insult, sign his ass to a 3 year contract and call it good.
