It looks like they have a plan, which entails a budget that Allen has set w/the Danny's blessing. As the Peter King article mentions, Allen didn't want to spend too much or get impulsive in free agency. I like it so far, sign players that are w/in your budget parameters rather than trying to outbid for 1 or 2 guys then having to restructure every year, etc.

If Vinny were still here I don't know if Peppers would be a skin, but I bet Clifton & Pashos would be. We would've overpaid for both to try & get the quick fix of the o line.

The FA pool this year was crap. Only a few difference makers and not at positions where we really had needs. Why accumulate more of what we had just cut? A bunch of average players that we'd be kicking ourselves over in a few seasons after 8-9 games a year with them.

That is how alot of Skin fans are acting though. I like are none/very little moves so far, smart play good players will be getting released from teams the wait and see approach i like.

Let's also not forget that danny et al weren't big spenders in free agency every year as it seems now most people are presuming. Look back at each year & you'll see highs & lows.

It's about time that we build the team patiently for the long haul, emphasizing the draft and making opportunistic signings like Hicks. I have vastly more patience with a FO that builds this way than with Snyderato trying to buy the trophy.

Yea, we've generally been pretty damn aggressive in FA. We won 4 games last year. We've got a ton of holes on an aging team. We've cut 10+ players. It's time to do a little rebuilding here. It's not a time to shill out a ton of $ on players who will most likely be old in a few years when we need them to be in their prime.

The Skins aren't going to be "fixed" overnight. So gun shy, no. It actually feels like they have a plan as opposed to previous years.

Pretty much. Even though we finished 4-12, I too think we're probably more like an 8-8 team. That's the great deception with this squad, we're really not that bad.

And as it's been stated here as well as other threads, there weren't a ton of quality free agents out there, unless you're giving up a top tier pick. Take the Bears for instance, they're not rebuilding they're trying to save face and a few asses.

Two people, among a few others, that I feel will be key to how far we go this year will Jason Campbell, for obvious reasons, and Levi Jones. He's the big wild card I'm counting on. If this guy can kill it in training camp and just become NFL starting material, I think we're on our way. Chad Rinehart, eh? I don't know, he should improve but I'm counting on Levi to step up more than Chad, although I'd be happy with either doing a good job.

I have to admit, I was the biggest whiner that we weren't spending money, but maybe it was someone on NFLN who laid it out nicely for me.

Sure, I'm sitting here thinking, "Wow, the one year we CAN spend money, we're not doing it." A total paradigm shift obviously, but now after hearing their explanation, I'm totally convinced what they're doing now is a great idea.

Sure, there's no cap this year, but what about next year for the people who have giant contracts they took on this year. Who are they going to be able to sign? We're setting ourselves up for a serious, thought-out rebuild, so I'm absolutely changing my opinion on the front office thus far this offseason.

While I am not completely pleased with the moves and non-moves the Redskins have made so far, I think that Shanahan and Allen are working toward a larger purpose. They are changing the culture and reputation of the Washington Redskins. This is no longer a place for guys to come who "want to get paid." We will not overspend for anyone. Lets take Clifton for example. We need a LT BADLY and Clifton would have been a nice stop-gap. Yes we could have had him on a 3year contract and could have cut him in 2011 with little to no cap penalty if the cap returns. Even though there would be no negative consequences for overspending on Clifton, we were determined not to do it. Not signing him may hurt us in 2010. However, not signing him (or Peppers, Dansby, etc. for that matter) sends a message to players that things have changed and that we don't want players here who just want to get their big payday. In the short-term, this strategy is hurting the team. However, in the long-term, this will help change the character and makeup of the team for the better.
