Re: New Uniforms? Summo on Redskins.com!
Man, it's amazing how much a year can change things. Last year, I posted a thread about possibly changing the Redskins uniforms and I get scolded by a lot of people for wanting to change the look of our team. Ok, off my soapbox. I do like a lot of the jersey ideas posted on here, especially Summo. I think you will see a uniform change in the near future if fans keep talking about it. While the current unis are nice and were from the good ol' days, I think it's time to "spice things up" and have a fresh new look.

Shanahan, Allen talk Redskins uniform colors
Posted by Michael David Smith on February 14, 2010 6:51 PM ET Redskins coach Mike Shanahan and General Manager Bruce Allen have a lot of big decisions ahead of them in rebuilding a franchise coming off a 4-12 season. And apparently there's no item too trivial to get Shanahan and Allen's attention. Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post reports that Allen said on a recent episode of Redskins Nation that he and Shanahan have had discussions about the color schemes of the Redskins' uniforms. "I'm very proud of the Redskins uniform, and I'm very proud of our helmet," Allen said. "I'm talking to Coach Shanahan about some ideas that we have of utilizing our colors that we're very proud of." The bottom line is that the Redskins want to incorporate throwback uniforms, but they're not going to add black to their color scheme.

Re: New Uniforms? Summo on Redskins.com!
I welcome the change. I have liked all the helmet designes... "arrow", "R", and the "indian head." I'm just bored with the white shirt burgundy pants and the burgundy shirt and white pants. I don't mind throw backs so long as there is a drastic upgrade or tweek to them. I simply can't see us wearing yellow pants with simple stripes again. Some people have put a feather on the side of them and they look awsome to me.
I'd still prefer if we went with a more traditional "gold" color. The yellow we wear is not the teams colors. I get so tired of people bending the truth by saying "well it's a shade of gold". No it's not it's yellow. Lets get back to gold. Go Google burgundy and gold and look at the images. It's beautiful unlike our burgundy and yellow. |

If anything longstanding should change it should be our owner's lust for marquee players with no informed way of implementing them. I'd take a change of that over any concern over what the hell we're wearing on Sundays. The topic of a uniform change from a front office perspective is about as pointless as knowing the team's ring sizes.

I don't care if we change the uniforms, but at least assign the responsibility to the proper people within the organization...not the people that should be focusing on football.

Whatever changes would have to be signed off by the powers that be, so I don't see why they wouldn't be involved to some degree along the way.

Sure, they will be involved eventually, but in the design stage? I see them getting involved when its time to sign off on the ideas that have been set in stone. If they're involved at a level right now where they can be addressing the media over it - it's too much. IMO they should be worried about football right now, not cosmetics.

I'm sure they've got the football side of things covered.

Re: New Uniforms? Summo on Redskins.com!
I doubt there is a lot of time being spent on uniforms by BA. Chances are his input has been what we already have heard. Uniforms should be traditional colors, keep the helmet, etc. But all of that falls under the purview of the GM, that is why it is hard to be a GM/Coach. I am confident BA can supervise, and add input when needed, without losing sight of the goal of building a championship caliber team.

If we were talking about JGibbs doing this after his decade being gone I'd be worried, but I think Shanahan knew he was going to come back, knew he would need a plan for which ever team he ended up with in regards to training and camps as well as a playbook. The only thing he needs to do is incorperate any plays his son wants added. He's picked up his coach's. Now is time to look at FA's and the college kids. Taking a little break and looking at uniforms will not hurt the team. |
