Exactly. People may scream that he would have been a great pick up for us, but he's playing mediocre football right now. And that's after the Jets used a couple of first rounders and big money free agent dollars making that Oline the beast it is.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

Clearly the Jets are winning in spite of Sanchez and not because of him. I will say though, he's an emotional leader and you can tell the players respect him a ton. I think Rex is doing a good job of keeping him in his lane until the game slows down for him more.

Rex Ryan has done a great job. The credit should go to him and whoever acquired these o-linemen. That's how you build a team. Good job.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

This is basically what I was saying about JC earlier in the season. Campbell would be a FINE QB on a team with a stout, opportunistic defense, solid O-Line and running game.

These Jets are basically following the blueprint of the '00 Ravens: win with defense, and get just enough out of your offense to get by. It's probably not surprising given Ryan's history.

Both offenses were mediocre to poor ('09 Jets ranked 17th in points and 24th in yards, while the '00 Ravens were 14th and 16th, respectively), but both had spectacular defenses ('00 Ravens 1st in points allowed and 2nd in yards allowed, while the '09 Jets are 1st in both categories)

The '09 Jets run the ball better than the '00 Ravens did, to the tune of about 40 yards a game, but they pass for about 30 yards per game fewer. The '09 Jets have a team passer rating 10 points lower than the '00 Ravens, which seems hard to believe, considering the Ravens went with the dynamite trio of Banks, Redman, and Dilfer that year.

So Sanchez is serviceale... with the Jets this year. Would he have been equally serviceable behind our Swiss cheese line? I kinda doubt it.

Sanchez would be in critical condition (still) behind the line Snyder/Ceratto put together.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

Its pretty simple; If you give your QB a solid OL, for the most part, he will succeed
If you give your QB a poor OL, he will not succeed (unless he's Peyton Manning)

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

Great points on Sanchez and the Jets team . I would love to find two pro-bowl OL in this draft , like the jets did w/ Ferguson/Mangold . I would however not pass up a CB like Revis late rd 1 or 2nd < if we trade down > . We could pick up 1 or 2 OL in F/A , as the F/A OL looks strong at this point . A rb and a bad ass LB would be nice also .

Yeah I agree with this. I did not want us to draft him, but I will give him some props. Rookie QB, 2 road playoffs wins under his belt...Im impressed...I mean that is not easy and he handled the pressure of expectations of the NY media as well. The guy is not playing at a high level, but he has been set up to succeed and has gained the type of experience you want a young QB to go through.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

I don't get all the hype. He throws the ball 15 times a game and most of the passes are 5 yards. He makes a play here and there but pretty much any NFL QB could play in the Jets offense. Yeah he's a rah rah guy, big deal. I'm not sold on the guy yet. Clearly the Jets defense and running game are winning games, not Sanchez. I'm glad we didn't take him.

Rex Ryan has been a great rookie head coach. You really couldn't ask for more out of the guy. He is great for the NY media and has his team ready to play on Sundays. Great Job by everyone on the Jets. That was a team win yesterday.

Game balls to Greene, The Oline, and The defense.

Best offensive line in the NFL, best running game, #1-ranked defense...these things can make ANY bad QB look great. Look at his pathetic stats. 20 INTs was second only to Jay Cutler. He had only 12 TD passes. His meager 162 yds/gm was near the bottom from starting QBs, ranked just behind the RAMS' Marc Bulger and just ahead of the benched 49ers QB Shaun Hill. Even the Tampa Bay QBs (Leftwich/Johnson) were way ahead of him in that category. How do the Jets win with such a bad QB? Simple, they don't rely on him and run as much as possible to avoid putting him in situations to fail.

The Jets have FOUR 1st-round draft picks on their offensive line. It shows.

If he had been our QB, he would have far out-mistaked Cutler with probably 35 INTs, IF and this is a BIG IF...he had survived to play all season with our offensive line, or lack thereof. We would have been a 1- or 2-win team...maybe, if we had Sanchez all year (and Collins seeing action when Mark is in the hospital).

he's better than most rookie QBs and far superior to ANY of the QBs available in this year's draft. That said, i'm very happy with Orakpo.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez

Here's the thing everyone is missing about Sanchez. He made some critical throws yesterday. Most notably, the key 3rd down during the 4th quarter, and the clutch TD pass to put them up 10 to 7. Yes, he only threw for like 93 yards, but most of those passes counted. Sanchez has one receiver, besides Jericho Cotchery he doesn't have a dependable go to guy.

Also, Sanchez is a remarkable leader, his enthusiasm and positive attitude reverberates throughout his entire team. That's something that Jason Campbell is missing. He's to laconic to be a leader in this epoch of the NFL, where leadership at the QB position is vitally important. One of my female friends who's also Redskins fan summed it up like this. "Jason Campbell is the type of guy you want marrying your daughter, not someone to lead you through the hostile trenches of the NFC east"
