I agree with SmootSmack. I don't see us going strictly 3-4 right away.

Re: Haslett to accept Defensive Coordinator

I didn't like this move at all. We shouldn't fart around with a 3-4 with a pissed off 4-3 dominating DT who wants to blow up his stats and not be a space eater. Also to be fair, haslett really hasn't had a lot of dominating Defensive players to my knowledge. I don't know if Greg lloyd played when he was DC in Pittsburgh. In New Orleans I can't think of any star defensive players except mike mckenzie when he was in his prime. when he was in St. Louis he had OJ Atogwe and Will Witherspoon and a rookie chris long. So maybe he can do something with some of our 'talent' on D. But thats the closest thing I have to a positive thought on us getting Haslett.

Re: Haslett to accept Defensive Coordinator

With the players we have, I dont think we go to a 3-4 next year... our defensive line is actually one of our strong points... so I would think if they were going 3-4, It would be Carter, Haynesworth and Jarmon, with Orkapo moved back to LB... and I'd really like to see him more at DE... than McIntosh, Fletcher and then we'd have to bring someone else in I'd think?

I'm very intersted to see how this works out...

Either way, I'm a fan of Hasletts, I think its a good move and I continue to really like the people who are being brought in right now and I think its a big step in the right direction for the organization...

Re: Haslett to accept Defensive Coordinator

I really hope it's a hybrid 3-4/4-3 type D, like the Cardinals defense from they're super bowl year. Plus wouldn't that be a good test for shanahan to see if he really wants to go that route or not.

Remember when Spurrier took a shot at Haslett, saying something like working all those long hours wasn't doing Haslett any good in terms of success on the field?

Re: Haslett to accept Defensive Coordinator

This is a clear message that things will be different in Ashburn next season. I believe Hasslet will do a good job, he has never had a defense as talanted as we have here in Washington. We'll have a hybrid scheme similar to the Ravens/ Jets IMO. If anything this moves shows me that AH's words carry clout. Haynesworth wanted a more aggressive defense, he got Mr. Aggressive.

Richard Seymour would look good in a skins jersey lined up next to AH

And the Saints kicked our ass early in the year.

How did he get a head coaching job if he was such a shitty coordinator? Doesn't seem like he's done much since he was the HC of the Saints, but did he do anything positive before that gig?

Re: Haslett to accept Defensive Coordinator

Honestly I couldn't figure what all the fuss was with Haslett or Zimmer. Both had mediocre numbers. I guess I was more excited about Zimmer cause it would not be too much of a change.

I even thought maybe seeing what happened to Wade Phillips or Jack Del Rio but Jack is being retained another year and most likely Phillips also. I read we did try to meet with Romeo Crennell but either we were turned down or he just didn't make it to us after his KC interview.

I guess we all have to hope Haslett does really good this time around. He has a lot of talent on this team. In reference to switching to a 3-4 and what we would need.....

Re: Haslett to accept Defensive Coordinator

Most likely AH would not be our NT. I guess we would try to look for one in FA and maybe try to pick one up in the draft if ones available in later rounds which I doubt happens. Usually the big NT's go fast. But most are expecting AH to be the DE in a 3-4 and I could see it. I know people are saying he's too big but AH actually plays pretty fast for his size. I think he would work out great shifting between week side and strong side DE.

On another note Bobby Turner (RB's coach)has not yet agreed or signed any deals.

Bobby April although reported to be a ST's coach the Skins would go after has not been signed up for any interviews with the Skins as of yet. He's met with Pitt and SF. He was supposed to be in Orlando for a speaking engagement so perhaps we contact him tomorrow.

Reports are the team is looking into WR's coach Mann of Tampa Bay.....

Mann reportedly to interview with Redskins
(UPDATED, 6:35 p.m.)

Just a few other coaching-staff tidbits...

While the Redskins have reportedly offered a position to Bobby Turner, who was Mike Shanahan's long-time running backs coach, it is not believed that he has yet accepted their offer.

While the St. Petersburg Times has reported that Tampa Bay has allowed its wide receivers coach Richard Mann to interview with another unnamed team, the National Football Post's Brad Biggs reveals the Redskins are that mystery team.

Former Buffalo assistant Bobby April has been mentioned in multiple reports as a candidate to coach special teams for the Redskins. But an NFL source said April does not have an interview scheduled with Washington, though he has interviewed with two teams and has other meetings scheduled.

There are also reports that secondary coach Jerry Gray is interviewing this afternoon to be the Redskins' defensive coordinator. Jim Haslett is in discussions with the team for the same position, though he was also contacted Monday night about the New York Giants' defensive coordinator position.

According to a league source, Bob Slowik, Shanahan's defensive coordinator in 2008 who spent four total seasons in Denver, is also Washington-bound. He has plenty of experience with defensive backs and could find himself coaching them here.
